Endgame proposal

I would like to share an idea for Path of Exile 2’s endgame system that could add more variety, freedom, and excitement to mapping.

My suggestion is to allow players to freely choose and run any map in the more common or regular endgame areas after atlas completion. This would give players flexibility and help avoid feeling locked into specific layouts or mechanics early on.

However, once a player reaches certain rare or special endgame zones, the game could introduce unique mechanics where the player can no longer choose what map to run next. Instead, the game itself would determine the upcoming encounter or environment. These rare zones would feel more like special progression moments — challenging, rewarding, and different from the standard mapping loop.

This mix of free choice in common areas and forced progression in rare areas could create a more dynamic endgame experience while keeping the sense of discovery and surprise that Path of Exile is known for.
