Ultimate abilities

In recent interviews, I've heard the devs mention the words "ultimate abilities" quite a few times. Something that I can't say I've heard before, especially given that I think they used to have something against abilities with cooldowns or spender type stuff?

With that in mind, I have to mention.. I absolutely LOVE ultimate abilities and have done so in every game I've played since I was little. This is my Power fantasy.

When a lot of zoom zoom enthusiasts mention power fantasy as being this shallow one shot everything at any given time with 0 cooldowns, no planning, wiping whole screens, so on so forth... that couldn't be farther from the true power feeling for me. Ultimate abilities however are an entirely different story... if done well.

I don't have much else to say other then I hope I'll keep hearing about this and that they will continue to work on that carefully.

"Infinite sustain" ultimate abilities are not ultimate abilities...there's nothing ultimate about it if you can use it very frequently... so keep that in mind please, GGG.

It's also been especially satisfying when these kind of abilities came in clutch in fights, in my personal experience.

Ultimate abilities feeling good also rely heavily on the general balance of non ultimate abilities and their potential for damage scaling... which at the moment is ridiculous and outshines such ultimate abilities even if they exist or more will be added. Oftentimes rendering them useless altogether.

Spear of Solaris and Hammer of the Gods are ultimate abilities, on paper.

But, the way they function is against the old-school arpg tempo because they are not dealing damage instantly. It's funny because I think they shouldn't change. I think these skills should be a reference to a meaningful combat. Because if I miss the Hammer I should be punished or if I get stunned while throwing the SoS I need to back up and try again. Maybe you can make the SoS stick to the target's body but still, they're great in terms of speed imo.

What really bugs me is the lack of some support gems that can turn other skills into ultimates. "Charged Shots" is a really good example, but having only a "damage" value and no other functionality ruins it for me. Skill icons and their functions should change based on the desired conditions in certain situations to make the game much more immersive.
