Campaign is frustrating as melee monk

I'm act 4 1k Life 74/53/44 23%armour and some evasion and es and I die so fast to mobs often faster than I can press my flask, campaign mob damage feels way overtuned, its not enjoyable as melee. Feels unreasonable, I'm overleveld and I still feel weak.

Slow effects are too strong during campaign, being chilled for 50% feels so bad and you cant build against it yet.

Bosses / rares have ground effects that make it impossible to attack them for large portions of the fight, not fun, no counterplay possible.

Damge on bosses is fine with a weapon I bought from trade, ssf weapon felt quite rough, usually ran out of pots with a 2-3 mod weapon for my level, not enjoyable progression.
Rares and white monster feel too strong, even with a strong weapon.

I follow a meta ice strike build from maxroll which was largely unchanged from last league so shouldnt be a build issue.

I made a melee monk in the previous season and indeed, melee is harder to get right than ranged, as it always has been in POE. I don't think that'll ever change, which doesnt mean i agree with it.

As for the incessant slows, yup, that's probably the first thing to overcome to make melee work. I solved it by equipping the Wanderlust boots and have even integrated them into my final endgame build. They're a real lifesaver for that, especially during the campaign with little to no other options.

PoE2 has a gear acquisition problem where their baseline doesn't match the experience for a fairly large set of players, melee exacerbates this problem because you have additional stat requirements ranged largely don't.

Its fairly easy to progress with high dps regardless but you end up with OK dps (which is where GGG probably want us to be for boss design incidentally) ranged vs melee starts to feel problematic.

Easiest way to summarise this is i'm yet to have a PoE2 character in the campaign that feels anything like as tanky as a PoE1 character with some basic gear and determination on. For melee that just isn't good enough, and evade feels so damn bad until high values.

Yes they are different games but its actually harder to manually dodge in PoE2 and the pacing means you take more hits in general they just need to buff defences at lower levels (probably at higher too) so defence investment feels rewarding when you can't just auto progress from damage which is the goto.
