It feels like gameplay and level design are divorced from one another
|
This is something that was really frustrating when I played back when early access released, and I'm experiencing it again after not playing since then.
Some skills need space to be usable. Some skills create effects on the ground, which need space to appear. Some skills require your character to move, and are not usable or are cancelled if there's no room for your character to move. And then every other area has long and absurdly narrow passages with no space for your skills to work. So I constantly find myself being bodyblocked by just one or two units, being unable to use my skills, spending resources to use skills which have no effect or which are cancelled an instant later because THERE'S NO SPACE. It doesn't matter if it's a matter of realism or whatever, it sucks. I want to use my skills and fight monsters, but levels are too narrow and monsters can bodyblock me too easily, so 30% of the time it feels like I'm just fighting a clunky and frustrating game engine.
