Severe VRAM Over-allocation and Texture Degradation on 8 GB GPUs (Regression from Previous League)
|
### System Information
* **GPU:** NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti (8 GB VRAM) * **Driver:** NVIDIA Game Ready Driver (latest as of this league) * **OS:** Windows 11 * **Renderer:** Vulkan (also tested DX12) * **Resolution:** 1080p / 1440p (reproducible at both) * **Installation:** Steam --- ### Description of the Issue Since the start of the current PoE2 league, the game exhibits **excessive VRAM usage** on 8 GB GPUs, leading to **aggressive texture streaming degradation** that makes the game visually unplayable over time. This behavior **did not occur in the previous PoE2 league** on the same hardware and settings. VRAM usage rapidly climbs to **6.4–7.0+ GB**, at which point the engine begins evicting textures, resulting in: * Extremely blurry / muddy textures * Inconsistent texture quality that worsens the longer the session lasts * Stutter and hitching during asset reloads Once this degradation starts, it persists until the game is restarted. --- ### Steps to Reproduce 1. Launch PoE2 on an 8 GB GPU 2. Use default or medium graphics settings 3. Enter a town or busy area 4. Observe immediate VRAM jump to ~6.4 GB 5. Play for 10–30 minutes (maps or towns) 6. VRAM usage continues rising toward 7+ GB 7. Texture quality visibly degrades and does not recover --- ### Expected Result * VRAM usage should remain within a stable budget appropriate for 8 GB GPUs * Texture streaming should gracefully downscale without permanent blur * Visual quality should remain consistent during extended play sessions --- ### Actual Result * VRAM is over-allocated and retained aggressively * Texture eviction occurs late and abruptly * Permanent texture blur and stutter occur mid-session --- ### Troubleshooting Performed * Cleared NVIDIA DXCache / GLCache * Rebuilt shader cache * Tested Vulkan and DX12 * Texture Quality set to Medium * Shadows Low, GI/Volumetric Off * FPS capped at 60 * Dynamic Culling disabled Issue persists despite these mitigations. --- ### Additional Notes * Many players with 8 GB GPUs (RTX 3060 8 GB, RTX 4060, RX 6600) are reporting similar issues this league * Behavior appears to be a **regression in VRAM budgeting and texture streaming** compared to the previous league * Towns appear to trigger the most aggressive VRAM spikes --- ### Request Please review VRAM allocation strategy and texture streaming budgets for 8 GB GPUs, as current behavior significantly impacts playability and represents a regression from prior versions.
