Played since Essence League in POE1 and the Wolf is the first time I've ever enjoyed a melee build.

Reasons:

a) You're not slow and when you're going super fast you still feel in control of your character and it doesn't look/feel like your character is spazzing out either. It looks great and moves great.

b) You're extremely mobile, jumping forward and backwards a lot, so you can actually dodge boss attacks quite well. And if a situation is very dangerous you can always just do a quick in-and-out with pounce and cross slash.

c) Freeze is satisfying (love the shatter explosions) and the crowd control makes the game a lot more manageable when otherwise things would be going crazy and you'd just be mashing hoping for the best (boss moving/attacking all over the place, enemies swarming you etc.).

d) Due to "c" and "d", you can actually play a character that doesn't have great defenses and instead use SKILL-BASED GAMEPLAY to avoid dying! For the first time ever in POE history! You can be super squishy, but if you spot projectile-based enemies, you just pounce on them and then freeze everybody around to avoid damage, you can cross slash to get out of being surrounded etc.. You can actually avoid/prevent enemy attacks! And not with single-button screen clears!

e) It's not just a dude hitting something with a stick, there's actually a ton of cool abilities (like Lunar Blessing). It's an attack-based build, but it feels as COOL as a spell-based build.

With that said, GGG, please fix the wolves doing GARBAGE damage, so I can return to my original plan of playing a werewolf + minion pack thing. I had to just ditch the minions completely, cause they were doing nothing for me.

Same feeling with bear, but different gameplay style. Its just fun to play it, the feeling is amazing and build synergies are very interesting.
Yeah the combo style gameplay for bear is really fun.
+1 agree in everything, i was also using the wolf pack and had to let go, hope they fix the wolfs minions damage because it's unplayable atm. Otherwise very happy with everything else
Thematically they've nailed it.
The abilities are just so on point and visually satisfying. It feels like a legit werewolf. This and WtA:Earthblood are, for me, the best werewolf experiences in gaming. Well, Dogs of War was cool as a tactical game but it's not the same and I don't think many people play it these days anyway.

The only downside is that it feels like it has to be played one way and one way only. Trying to mix the main wolf powers with other spells feel like a waste unless you want some support spell like Consecrate.

Cheers!

That could be a thing, yeah, but I think it's a little too early to tell.

For one, there are still "official GGG-intended" ways to use things that are undertilized, for example: almost nobody is using the rain stuff to pump up freezes (I just do it at the start of really big boss fights, if I can remember) and the whole wolf pack stuff is basically unusable.

Also, nobody has really explored the potential of mixing multiple shapeshift forms or even the whole attack+spell thing TOO much, so that can also be an area where things can expand.

Not to mention that the basic attack and pounce aren't cold-themed per se and pounce can be used for other marks beyond freezing mark and predator's, so they can probably be used for other kinds of build. And Artcic Howl and Lunar Blessing buff minions in general, not just wolves, so they can maybe be used in a gimmicky non-wolf minion build.

Idk, I'm not an amazing build creator, but I can see it not being as one-note as people think.
