Intermittent freezing in patch 0.4.0b

This ran fine before the patch. After the patch, I started seeing random but relatively frequent freezes. I validated the files and cleared the cache, but nothing seems to help. As an HC player, this poses a huge risk to playing as it's clear my character is not pausing the game but actively in the world when this happens (running down the path, freezing, and then coming back it boosts me forward to the end of the path).

Also experiencing crashes/screen freeze

Update: Walked away for a bite. Came back. Tried a different character. Noticed it wasn't happening. Logged in my main and I'm no longer experiencing the freezes.

Another update... suddenly froze again tonight. Had to alt-F4 out. Noticed there was an update. Clicked it. Now I'm seeing freezes regularly again. Shut down machine for a while. Came back and I'm still seeing freezes although they seem to be accompanied by weird shader effects?

I'm now seeing a pattern where it will be fine for a while, and then freeze 3 times in a row with 1 second intervals in between and be fine again. Also not sure if it is a coincidence that this tends to happen when rolling over items in inventory (although it's been observed when just playing too).
