Hey all, I am a Chayula specialist. I have played Chayula every season to level 97 to the point where I can map at Meta pace and Pinnacle kill in one hit. This season, with all the changes to augments, I was worried that Chayula would suffer. Lucky for me, I haven’t, and this is my best build to date. I’ll break down every bit of tech here for anyone who wants to explore. First we’ll talk about Chaos damage. A lot of Chayula aspiring players lock in on Original Sin and ES Leech. DONT DO IT! It’s a trap! The ring is one of your most valuable slots and relegating it to chaos resistance and conversion sucks. As a Chayula, your best bet for Chaos damage comes from a few places: 1) Chaos as Extra on the tree 2) Chaos as Extra on the rune 3) Chaos as Extra from Jewels 4) Chaos as Extra from Mantra of Destruction 5) Chaos as Extra from ITB 6) Increased Chaos damage modifiers 7) All other flat damage adds 7.1) Chaos As Extra from Lineage supports 8) WITHER AND DESPAIR Chaos as Extra is pretty strong. The only modifier that won’t help you out is “increased elemental damage (to attacks)”. The way it’s calculated is that it won’t amplify your elemental damages thus improving your chaos as extra, but it will amplify any of your elemental damages “As Extra”. Withered is an increased damage taken modifier. This means it’s a multiplier as well. Between skill tree and gloves you can get an 80% increased chaos damage taken multiplier. This is done after ALL your DPS calculations are done, and it’s done separately from chaos resist. So you can curse an enemy with Hand of Chayula + Despair to get them -40ish chaos resist. If the enemy has no Chaos Resist they will take 1.4x * 1.8x from just curse and Wither alone. Absolutely INSANE levels of damage, I one shot Uber Arbiter with falling Thunder thanks to this combo. Next we’ll talk abilities. I’m not using the HoI tech, specifically because I like Shock as an ailment and I want to reliably apply it. Instead, we are using Herald of Thunder + Esh’s Radiance with Shattering Palm which creates a similar effect as HoI interaction. I think it’s more reliable in screen clearing simply because it doesn’t kill large packs at once, but creates a cascading sequence of HoT+Shatter instances that refresh HoT and allow it to chain until all enemies are gone. For defense, I’ve chosen to forego traditional layers. Heavy investment into ES doesn’t fit my motive as I am melee and don’t want to put 15+ skill points into Max ES and ES stun threshold. Instead I’ve opted to utilize Chayula’s gift of leech and suck down both HP/Mana from my enemies, splitting damage I receive between both. Eldritch Battery dos not benefit from max %es mods, so they are ignored entirely. Instead of traditional defense layers, I’ve found a deterministic and affordable path to create a desirable chest that supports my defense mechanisms. As far as evasion goes, it doesn’t fit the end goal. As long as I’m leeching I’m fine, unless I take a huge hit that depletes my hit pool on one shot. You can have all the evasion in the world but if a good crit breaks thru, you’re toast. Take a look at my chest piece. If you’re savvy with crafting, you’ll notice that it can be made pretty easily with readily available crafting currency for a low price. The one I have on now is my fourth of this craft, the previous 3 all exploded on double corrupt. Between all 4 I’ve spent less than 100 divine. I’ve put a heavy focus on life and mitigating the large hits around it. Perfect Essence of Ruin cuts down on a lot of physical damage considering I have 90% chaos resist. Critical damage reduction helps when those crits connect. %max life helps create the necessary pool to take bigger hits. Ideally this chest will double corrupt into a 4th socket and the Additional Physical Reduction enchant, but we’ll see how lucky I am! As long as I’m leeching, I’m fine. That’s where Remnant Distance comes in to play. ITB is so damn good for this. You can see in my gear and tree that I’ve put some investment into it (Amanamanamu mod on amulet and ring). I’ve opted to stick with first level of ITB simply because I don’t want to specialize in a single flame type. If GGG ever moves the distance and magnitude bonus to the main notable Lucid Dreaming and has the small skill only effect flame color, I will probably move into it. The gist of the build is simple. Teleport around with Shattering Palm into Whirling Assault. Bossing is a combo of Tempest Bell + Ice Strike (for Wither Stacks) + finish with Falling Thunder. Charge Regulation is for crits, and power charges are gained by abusing Mantra + Ailiths + Delayed Gratification. Some other notable tech: Stun recovery is good as hell. Warm Hearted + Reduced Freeze Duration on boots means you’re basically immune to freeze Recovery effects are effectively doubled when you split damage 50/50. The unique chaos charm + physical as chaos provides a net recovery of about 13% of physical damage as life. Daze is very good with the daze notables. Every monk should be using it. Combo generation is very good, practiced combo is insane with whirling assault. Mantra of Destruction + Whirling Assault can be looped efficiently with combo generation. Duration bonuses socketed into Mantra extend its duration and the purple flames duration from killing. The Mantra buff lasts for the entire whirling assault, not just the first hit. You can reliably generate 70% chaos as extra while mapping by alternating whirl + mantra + whirl + whirl. Here’s a slightly older video. This was when I was using Cospris Will still. If you’d like to play a Chaos Chayula, I encourage you to utilize Cospris Will in the early end game to get the most out of your damage until the rest of your gear allows you to craft an optimal chest. https://youtu.be/ZvsSz4sVBxI?si=0-uq0s4KvRqAb9XP I have some more videos I can upload later.
