Lost in Ascendancy, or: Are you out your mind!?

This is a really cool game, beautiful and all.

But.

I just struggled 2 hours trying to figure out how to change my Ascendancy class. And this is after 150 hrs of gameplay (and about a Witch lvl 54 with four points in Ascendancy). And I failed.

After some Google prompts and YouTube videos, I used my free Passive Reset, respecced my Tree, went for that Chaos Trial thingy with empty Ascendancy (Infernalist, want to change to Lich), found one fitting offering in my stash and failed at the vulture Boss in 5th room.

With no more fitting offerings, I tried and went to Sekhemas location, doubting that this one would be of use to get a four point Ascendancy changed, from what I read, but tried anyway, maybe I got lucky, used a lvl 40 offering, made the run, told Balbala to reset my things, but Ascendancy Altar would not be active for me.

Now what?

Guess, I am expected to farm the right offering?
Haven't seen any offering in the last 10 hours of running Act IV. Where do I get it? Can I buy it? And I need several, because Vulture Boss (and its meaner cousin in Room 10) will just be hard for me to pass clean.
What about the 2nd storie of Sekhemas I heard about? How do I get there? What offering do I need for that one, where do I get that offering?

Really. I just want to play that game. At the moment this included changing my youthful indiscretion (Infernalist) into something that works well with bound spectres (Lich). But PoE's complexities grow over my head and eat up my nerves. At lv 54. No Essences or Maps involved, yet, miles away from any End Game ...

Pretty sure it is not the right area/item level if you have 4 Ascendancy passive skill points

Same item (Djinn Barya), just higher item level. Looking at the wiki, at least item level 45. Should say "Number of trials: 2" on it.
No particular location to farm for it afaik.

After completing the first floor, a door to the second floor will be available in the room with all the chests, at the top-right side (behind all the chests).

wait, you mean, I need to run the first 10 rooms to reach the next 10? ... this game!

*sigh ... at least I found some "2"s in Guild Stash, so I could try that.

y, just found one (in Guild stash) for second floor, that says "Area Level: 52".

Also found this on Reddit: "You're looking to get your 2nd ascendancy done, this requires you to either do 2 floors in sekhmas, or do 7 rooms in trial of chaos, OR complete the 1st condition of the trial you didn't do for your first ascension."

=> What's the "1st condition"??

First Trial I did in Sekhmas, 2nd was Chaos. What's the 1st condition of Trial of Chaos??

ah, Google says, "the first condition for the Trial of Chaos is defeating the boss Xyclucian, the Chimera"

does that mean, I go and clobber Xyc, and am then able to change Ascendancy class at Altar inside Temple? .. can't believe that, but will try ...

EDIT: defeating that Chimera did not do anything for me.
