i have 34 fire resistance in helm and 37 fire resistance in belt but my overall res is only showing 38 fire resistance????

Have you accounted for resistance penalties due to area level?

This is similar to how players receive resistance penalties in POE1, but it occurs 10% at a time on elemental resistances and starts in Act 2. Penalties are applied based on the level of the area you are in and are not otherwise permanently applied to your character as they are in POE1.


You lose 10% from all elemental resistances for completing each of the first three Acts.

You subsequently lose 10% at each of the following area levels during the interludes and maps:
- Level 54
- Level 60
- Level 65

You also gain +10% fire resistance for defeating Blackjaw the Remnant in Act 3 (from item: the Flame Core).

It is also possible to either gain or lose 5% to elemental resistances at the Seven Pillars encounter in Qimah.


After completing the campaign, in areas with level 65+ (e.g. Maps) you would expect to have a net 50% reduction in your Fire Resistance, ignoring any boon chosen at the Seven Pillars.

If you have a few % more than you mention above (from gear or passives), reducing your fire resistance by 50% could result in a total of 38%.
