Detailed overview of Diablo 3 vs. Path of Exile
I've said this many times before and I'll reiterate it again: the fact that we are comparing GGG to Blizzard, PoE to D3, is a testament to how horrible a job and pathetic a job Blizzard did on D3. Blizzard had/has WoW subscription money to do whatever the hell it wanted, even create a bridge that joined both heaven and hell... PoE had/has a vision based on a handful of individuals who reached out to a community to breath financial life into its dreams. The clear loser from my perspective is Blizzard.
Blizzard is constantly on the outside looking in. They failed with Diablo 3, and they more than likely will fail with Heroes of the Storm... It took them so long to join the MOBA arena that when they finally did, their offering is almost dead on arrival. And what are their true rivals doing, i.e. companies with the same financial clout that they can muster? Well, Valve for example just unleashed their VR beast of a machine called Vive. Not only is it being hailed as a true competitor to the Oculus Rift it will present a paradigm shift in the way we consume digital media. Blizzard is doing nothing innovative and has brought NOTHING new to the table since Blizzard North disbanded many many years ago. For us to argue Blizzard vs. PoE/GGG is irrelevant. Blizzard has done absolutely nothing! NOTHING! /rant GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!

Well Blizzard brainwashes people into continuing to play WoW. Still don't know how they pull it off.

" You can only compare them appropriately if you have max zoom-out in both cases and record videos for both. I.e. that you show both games how they are actually played. Games like movies, are about motion pictures, not one static picture. That said, I don't know and don't care about who comes out on top in that category because I really don't care about it in ARPG, but when you make a comparison you should make a proper one. " They most certainly did not fail in the CCG market. They turned that shit upside down with HS. |

" Oh boi, another big D3 vs PoE discussion XD. I won't take part in "which game is better" discussion (if you can call that thing discussion), but saying that Blizzard is ok, because they sold more shit is just silly. Do you know budgets for both games? Because, you know, I think Blizzard invests a LITTLE MORE than GGG, so they need to gain a LITTLE MORE than GGG. :D The sole fact that small indie studio production is compared to multi-million giant is interesting. I think how much company gained for each unit of currency spent would be a better indicator. Not amount of players ; ). Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. | |
" This right here says a lot IMO. GGG created PoE as a labor of love (initially) and home-grew their company and team with a fraction of capital compared to the well-established franchise of D3. Those who have not engaged in game development can't quite understand what a paramount accomplishment this is. Hats off to GGG. All that and a bag of chips! Последняя редакция: Mooginator#1287. " Hmm an old D3 picture without effects and shadow turned on. Hmm a PoE max setting still shot... with shadows and everything that most people turn off in order to have a playable frame rate. Also its kinda pointless to compare still shots (obviously biased to PoE or not). The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.
Welcome to PoE. |

Regarding those screens...
* PoE has a much better art style, than D3. Realistic, gritty, I love it. * D3 has a severely more optimized graphics engine. Stable frame rate, smooth gameplay. PoE looks better in theory, but when you need to set things on low, maybe even disable shadows, to have playable FPS, it looks like poo. And even then you get stuttering and frame drops in certain cases (shrines, ground effects, party play..) When night falls

" Shouldn't it be "POE has a much different art style"? And what "does look better" mean? Animations, effects, surroundings, nature, mobs, menues, everything? I think that d3 is what it should have been (designwise ;)). I have no doubt that Blizz could have designed a game that looks like farcry 4 if they wanted. But they never did something like this. Blizzard-games always were designed to be playable by a large amount of players with hardware from lowest to best. But i think that GGG did what they could do. I think that if GGG have had the manpower, the money and whatnot, POE would have been a total stunner. In reality, it is a beautifully designed game. But it has it's limits. No problems with that. But if you compare the smoothness of playing both games or the consistency of style, d3 has an advantage in my opinion. Even if i also like the gritty, realistic style of POE more ;) The Sirus fight is a disgrace. Последняя редакция: ghamadvar#7236. Время: 10 мар. 2015 г., 13:55:18

You probably heard of Blizzard's new Team Fortress clone, Overwatch. Here's something interesting about the field of view in the game:
" So they went with a small and fixed field of view. Why? Because consoles. Blizzard officially became a console/tablet developer lel. RIP in peace. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence. Последняя редакция: Xavderion#3432. Время: 10 мар. 2015 г., 14:09:48
