Vaal Molten Shell totems from tora mission extremely overpowered
I just ripped in tempest league, 5k hp level 83 marauder, died in about half a second to tora mission vaal molten shell totems. I hit one of them with my cyclone and got killed in 2-3 hits (76% fire resistance and fortify). I've tanked much scarier stuff before with ease, and I instantly died to these totems in a level 72 blue map; didn't even have time to react...
I'm not the type to die and cry "nerf" immediately afterwards, so I tried to see if it was just me. Sure enough, ALOT of people seemed to have instantly died to them as well. For example in a thread made a while back (old, but still relevant) someone at very high level (99) died instantly with 6.2k hp and very high level artic armor with overcapped fire resist (post on reddit). Another video of someone died the same way I did back in the bloodlines league: 2-3 hits and instantly killed (also with very high HP and mitigation against fire damage). I hope this is sufficient evidence that the VMS damage of these tora mission totems should be reduced (3k hp per explosion even with insane fire mitigation is simply way too overtuned). Not as salty as OP but here to QQ.
I just ripped to this as well in Tempest. Cannot explain how pissed I am, I died pretty much instantly. No warning or description on the boss, just a generic looking chieftain monkey. Almost 4k health capped fire, fortify, doing merc dried lake. Did the all weekend grind, killed pre-nerf Malachi with my friend, spent all my currency on upgrading gear and was really looking forward to FINALLY mapping. Don't even know if I will reroll, this stuff absolutely kills player retention. |

Well damn im in Warbands so it wasnt quite as Frustrating for me in particular but it sure was a WTF moment when it happened to me! Atleast now i know what it was that triggered the Totems!
So i guess i need to turn AA off whenever i fight these gorillas? Is AA what is in fact triggering them since that was what i couldn't understand i was running away and he pops one right besides me and it explodes instantly just from running by it! So AA is what made it go off? Because i was running not attacking! There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation. The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear. Any damage to vaal molten shell triggers an explosion. When you have something like multistrike or echo on your main skill you can literally be mid attack and the totem appears and insta-rips you.

I didnt attack anything i was kiteing backwards from the room and it popped me while i wasnt even attacking so im assuming my AA is somehow hitting them? But anyway yeah when it happend to me i couldnt even figure out what it was that did it other than i knew it was the totems but i was under the impression if i just touched them i died! But AA doesnt hit is what is confusing me! Maybe the Frozen Ground from AA counts as a hit? IF so wouldnt that also mean it will proc EE? Because if that is the case... im about to have some FUN!! \m/ Fire Spec+AA+I kite EVERYTHING=Holy Shit if EE Does end up working like that! But yeah it ALWAYS been like this in those Tora Rooms... some of the most rippy encounters ive had in this game have come from those rooms at times! My 82 Tempest ranger died to this earlier today as well, however with my build I'd have died no matter if the VMS damage from the ape boss totems is reduced or not, over 50 hits/second and I had a ticket to Standard before I even noticed my health starting to drop.
I've been pondering ways to survive this scenario with a high aps/hit build but as far as I remember this is the only monster in the game that actually uses VMS, and as such it would be the only no-go zone. |

RIP'd pretty good tonight also due to attacking this unique boss in dried lake that summoned a bunch of these totems on me while I was cycloning the boss. I died before I even had time to realize I took damage.

I managed to kill the gorilla but died after.
Few things 1 Impossible to understand wtf is happening 2 totem hide inside the gorilla and explosions look like atziri lightning call "the red one" but u try to find it on the floor to evade it but u find nothing. 3 Ok totem teleports to me and explode then I run and gun. That is what I thought but was not true so I got more confused, but by doing that I managed to kill the gorilla by popping instant health flaks in the right time 4 ok gorilla dead was no threat now an evil totem teleporting to me and exploding kill it !!!! no dead :((((((((((((((((. 5 Dmg is tooo hi 6 play the game but if u are unlucky to do this retard mission u die. The 6 thing is the reason there are not many ppl complaining about it. This mission makes this game a lottery unless u totally avoid all tora missions. ps ripped lvl 69 incinerator in tempest server, quest tora , location dried lake. |

PoE follows the rock-paper-scissor logic.
It is designed so that you can't (or at least shouldn't easily) beat all the game content with only 1 char / 1 skill / 1 mouse button / 1 neuron. Vaal molten shell totems may kill a melee char but other kinds of builds may survive easily. I'm fine with this.
