It used to be that instead of a vaal fragment or vaal skill, you could also get a vaal orb to drop in the corrupted zones. Why is that gone?
Vaal orbs are the most fun orbs in the game and a cute item drain as a fringe benefit to the econogrrrr... May your maps be bountiful, exile

youre right. there were no complaints about bricked uniques for a long time. new players finding no vaal orbs would explain that :-)
playing one char to level 84 i found around 14 of them. and yes, could easily be more. as soon as level 77 jeweler strongboxes become available one needs plenty of them. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

What ive always wondered is why i have to trade 7 Vaal Gems with 1 Sacrifice Piece in order to get 1 Vaal Orb? That just a bit steep! 3 maybe 4 Vaal gems i could see but 7?

Um it really doesn't need changed, at least in tempest they are basically 2:1, although I would never sell for that. Plus theirs the 10 vaal orb divination card and the 5x currency card.
They aren't suppose to be something you can just spam without consequence on every unqiue that drops that is applicable, they want you to pick a few and pay if you want to do more. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

But you don't have to spam every unique to need vaal orbs. Changing sockets on a corrupted item takse a shit ton of vaal orbs.
I agree. The drop rate should be higher. They made that recipe when there were excess vaal gems because sacrifice pieces were rarer and corrupted areas were easily farmable. They should adjust the drop rate to compensate for the lower corrupted area spawn rate and not allowing them to spawn in easily farmable areas (I'm talking about you, city of sarn). Well I'm not really sure why they increased the drop-rate of chaos orbs and reduced the drop-rate of Vaal Orbs.
Using Vaal Orbs always was interesting, it often completly destroyed the item but that is the point of Vaal Orbs. I also loved using them on maps, not having them that readily avaible is annoying. Technically the increased Chaos Droprate makes up for the reduction in Vaal Orbs, but it is just another method to force trading. The interesting thing about Vaal Orbs is that reducing the amount you drop also reduced the amount you need. With less Vaal Orbs there are less corrupted uniques that need Vaal Orbs to change sockets. Most other changes are often just things you do if you have the orbs, if you don't have them you won't go crazy Vaaling everything. |

As for changing sockets\ect with vaal orb cost, why shouldn't you pay a lot to do that? Makes you either spend more regular money linking the item pre corruption or pay the additional vaal orb cost post corruption. I honestly see no issue with the vaal orb drop rate, if I had to guess its mainly SC players complaining about this because they don't want to spend the money up front and because they don't they have to trade to get the vaal orbs they need to "fix" it afterwards. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

Vendor recipe should be:
1 red Vaal gem + 1 green Vaal gem + 1 blue Vaal gem + Sacrifice fragment = 1 Vaal Orb. GGG should also design 9 more red Vaal gems and 5 more green Vaal gems. We do not need more blue ones.
