Season One, Race Event 21: One Week Party
" I have seen several people say this, and it is just a crap argument. Nobody bothers to think of the situation the other way around. i.e. the week race rewards are bad, so now I am forced to participate in the 13 small events instead. Which is the exact situation happening now. What you are suggesting is the exact same thing just the other way around. |

" I agree, they have done a fantastic job so far. |

" Agreed. I propose a new kind of race: solo, week-long, where your character's experience at the 40 hour mark is recorded for the purposes of the race. Any progress afterwards for this race for that character is then useless. So everyone has 1 week to put in 40 hours of playtime in that league and then the winner is announced. The online rating will show character, level, and how much time they have so far put in. So if you can't play the first day, you can check the scoreboard to see what's going on, and if you have the time and the skills, you can still get some rewards points. The only downside of this is that if you can't play at the very beginning, then you don't get to see all the text about people leveling up and dying and all of that, which is pretty fun, but the upsides to this are enormously better and it fits everyone's schedule who is willing to put in the time. Maybe even have another race that is 40 hours in length but give people 2 weeks to complete it. |

What is the point? Where is the incentive?? This is horribly balanced when in comparison to the whole season ladder, which even the design of the season ladder is wishy washy.
Now races in general are fine. The top player of each class winning a Demi is fine. However, the balance between points and time investment is horrid. Why compete in the season ladder when you can't attend all the events. It's looking like a limit is going to be needed, a limit in how many races an account can attend in a given day or week. What else is there to keep the playing field fair, besides quitting my real life. The season ladder at its current state is borked. IGN: seventyinten

Chris, thanks for responding, it really cleared things up for me. I think I'll try to play the race casually and see where I end up, been wanting to make someone new anyways. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and a bunch of high levelers bite it at the last minute :P.
I do feel like the rewards are a bit underwhelming, but at the same time, this is still in beta, so it makes sense to try things out and see reactions to them. Forums are always the super vocal but also a huge minority; probably less than 10% of those who play read these on a regular basis, if that. While it looks like a ton of people are negatively reacting to this, there's probably 10x more who see it and go "Hey cool, a week long race! I'll try it while I have the time next week, that could be fun!". Mainly I'm excited there are races and tournaments at all; coming from the Eastern Sun Diablo 2 mod tournament scene, seeing this built into the game and supported makes me extremely happy. |

Great game. Interesting races to watch. Decent short-term time sinks with somewhat reasonable rewards. But you're taking a good thing and sending it in the wrong direction. (imo)
The longer the race the worse the current system becomes. That's pretty much all there is to it. Not only could you "achieve" more things in a shorter time through multiple events (yes, even just for the sake of racing), but you also get much more bang for your buck. It sucks because I was looking forward to only doing longer races. They're just more convenient for me. I don't care about points for the sake of points. However, I do care about being rewarded for my time invested when compared to other options within the game. Where I'm from we get paid by the hour or for the task. Neither of which add up in this case. You talk about people feeling like they have to do the 1 week if it gives similar rewards per time for the other races. But it can't go the other way? I would be willing to bet you have just as many people, if not more, interested in your longer duration races because their more convenient. With the longer duration races, you don't have to worry about getting up and tending to your kids, chores, work, school, to answer your door, or even going out with some friends. Sure there are inevitably going to be those people that play 18 hours a day. That's okay, I wasn't expecting to beat them, but I was expecting to be rewarded for milestones. Not 1-2 points either, say half that of first place for reaching level 75. 120% Of first place points for reaching 90. 75% for 80 and 100% for 85. etc. (Yes, I realize this wouldn't work with the current system) Now, I understand this wasn't your intention with the ladder this season as you don't have many week long events and nothing longer announced. But I do feel that the total obtainable points from these longer races should be around that of the total amount of obtainable points from the shorter races. This is assuming a similar ranking across all events. The majority of the season rewards should be obtainable from just shorter races or just longer races. So players have a choice to participate in what is most convenient and fun for them. While achieving something at the same time. I also understand there will be those that do both and there should be prizes for them too. This of course is in addition to the demigod's. As the current prize distribution for that is very good. Yet another reason for more frequent week+ races is they probably require less work by GGG and they are great for all timezones. If it were up to me there would always be a 1-3 week race going on. only 500 people who give reward points. For me it is not enough. In the 1-2-3 hour race reward point received 1000-1200 people. I apologize for the clumsy English

Just voicing my +1 disgruntlement. As a job-wielding casual there is zero incentive for me to participate in this, and I'd really like to. A week long race league sounds super fun, but I can't justify it if I'm basically guaranteed to get nothing.

I think the reason people are upset, myself included, is that the one week race is a race that EVERYONE can participate in regardless of timezone. It is a race that appeals to everyone because of this. You can choose your own time to play. In contrast the other races are very stifling. As an EST player, the original times were a joke, now they are okay I guess? I haven't played a race since monday because the race times pretty much are all undoable for me.
Also in a one week race you actually make a character that you will use instead of a throwaway character. One week races are very appealing to every type of player. That's why it feels like a disappointment when the prizes are bad. However I get where GGG is coming from: I wouldn't want to feel forced to invest a lot of time in the one week race if I didn't want to. I really think a minor level based award would solve this problem. It would be small enough that people wouldn't feel forced to play, but substantial enough that one doesn't feel like shit investing that much time into it. |

It has been said before, but i agree that the Point system on this one is pretty messed up. There is no guarantee I would even be under the Top500 while sacrificing my whole real life for the race. On the other hand i can easily get more points in a 1h Race where i know for sure i will get points.
This is pretty fu**ed up for "normal" players. IGN: Darkrox (not my main, just for easy contact)
