Cold to Fire Gem. Any uses?

Haven't managed to make it work well enough to use yet. First I tried ice spear proliferation, with and without xMP. No dice. Then I tried iceshot, with and without xMP. No dice. Brought it into ice nova. No dice. Tried it in cold snap proliferation. No dice.
Discharge yes, anything else I haven't found a use for it yet. One handed glacial hammer, use Hrimsorrow and Chernobog? I bet something exists, I just can't figure it out for the life of me. How to make a build: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/510084

I can't even make arctic breath work in a regular build, never mind a CtF one.

One of my friends uses a level 6 version with my elemental equilibrum character, to overall increase his DPS gained via not ever having his attack entire resisted.

" Just my experience. Tried Cold Snap=Elemental Proliferation=Inc.Critical chance=Cold to Fire Not the best idea, but it help sometimes. When there are a lot of monsters heading my way - shoot in the middle -> crit, proliferated freeze AND burning. Some fun :D Remember, suffering is convenient.

Haha yes, as a support on coldsnap it works well enough.

" Unfortunately, you should tell your friend that he's only gimping himself. EE procs on hit, and simultaneous damage results in both elements getting resisted. Cold to Fire causes simultaneous damage. If your friend hits a monster with CtF and EE, the monster will gain 25% cold and fire resistance and lose 50% lightning resistance. " No. I'm the one using Elemental Equilibrium. He uses cold to fire because I use Elemental Hit (33% chance of any particular element), so instead of ending up with an average damage increase of 125% he winds up with 133%. So cold to fire is really only good if paired with an EE build. |

C2F is the cheap version of cold penetration. (No mana cost compared to 150% on cold penetration)
I doubt there is a use in late game for now, 'cuz capped monster res(125%) arent a rare thing. In early game, until you hit high maps a 50/50 C2F is nice. Against 75% Cres you doing still 63% Damage (instead of 25% Cold, 50% Fire damage and 50*0.25 Cold damage.) Against 75% Fres you doing 63% Damage (You loose a bit damage agaianst Fire Res mobs.)
