Almost every f2p game will have a 50% drop off, because other than hard drive size there is no reason not to try one.
That said, yes it's a bit unrewarding. Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt
Domination/Nemesis T shirt Tempest/War Bands T shirt |

obviously the game isn't going to maintain its peak playerbase at launch...especially for the reason the above poster stated, among other reasons

" that chart does not count the people that dont need steam cause poe is the only game they play, the people who just plain dont use steam and never have, or the people like me who think steam is garbage... 50% of the people in my house quit playing, but that is 2 people total and my house is not a accurate cross section of poe players. To judge the drop in playerbase you would need a actual number from ggg. Последняя редакция: H4T3MONG3R#3676. Время: 7 янв. 2014 г., 12:28:41

I think the most people don´t play PoE on steam.
And a lot of people tried PoE, and stopped playing after a short time (it´s F2P, so no risk to try it out). And what counts are the paying playerbase, it´s better to have 10000 paying players, who buy the supporter packs and points for the cosmetics than 1000000 players who don´t pay a penny... I´m sure there will be an increase with the next big patch, and again a decrease after some time. It´s a normal up and down. Anyway, a strong playerbase is important, not the "come and go" players. |

Look at other games on Steam. 95% have the same or worse charts.
Also, this comes up several times a week. | |
" I think this should be a nice subject for discussion if it can be done without ending in 2 camps. I would say, given the rapid speed of league's and the major replay ability factor of this game due to it's inherent complex passive tree/skill gem system. Yes, it is currently to unrewarding given that the game promotes playing in multiple league's and theory crafting character after character. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" http://steamgraph.net/index.php?action=graph&appid=440&from=0 Almost every. Except for the ones that don't. GGG can rationalize this all they want, but that is potential $$$ that is fleeing from the game. If they aren't worried, they damn-well should be. They can correct this, tho. Step one? Listen to the fucking fans who have been here telling them how to fix this shit all along. Fix desync. Stop making trade the only solution. Fix shit that is currently broken instead of giving us new broken shit. |

Well, it's the same as every other game. What really matters is how it'll hold after years.
A good example of indie success on Steam is M&B:Warband. They've have very good numbers for like 4 years. And it isn't going down, whatever happens. But ofc, the numbers today are lower than the numbers at release. It stabilizes after a while. |
