Farming currency with new characters?
2 playthroughs, good orbs once, no orbs the second time.
Would take some careful data anlysis, more importantly it should be reported if so as a possible exploit so they can make a work around. For example, limiting the orb quality to alchemy until lvl 10 or whatever so noobs get the bonus money, but it can't influence the higher currency economies. |

People just see patterns where they don't exist, for every one person that gets a decent low level currency drop and mentions it there are hundreds that get nothing but don't mention it (because why would they?)

I managed to get a Chaos Orb in the Wrecked Shipyard(?) on my new Witch. I was surprised.

If I'm not mistaken all currency drops have the same drop % regardless of zone and only level effects (well quantity and rarity) drops.
It would make sense that if you outlevel a zone you will see less currency. The two points when overleveling is not an issue is early on and late game. I think I may take the time to put togeather a decent "quality/quantity" low level suit for the character I can level the fastest with early and see if its noticable. Somehow I doubt it since early on you cant really kill as quickly even with the perfect set of gear/spec. |

Chaos and alchemy are mid tier currency, they're fairly common. If this was about gcp, exalt, regal, and mirrors then that would be different.

I used to think there was a correlation between low level players and good currency drops, but then I noticed in levels 50+ currency drops much more frequently; probably because you're killing more mobs and the drop penalty is reduced.

In raising 3 characters to 65+ I've had a total of 3 regals and 2 gcp drop between levels 1-14 and 0 regals 1 gcp drop from 15-65.
I imagine this is due to the level penalty, I generally complete areas entirely and sometimes repeat an area if I found something nice in hopes the rng God will smile on me again, so the farther I get into the game the more over leveled I end up. My current character is level 50 in Cruel act 2 with none of the quests completed.... so out-leveled the entire act or even Cruel before starting it. I agree it's a bit too harsh a currency drop. As said before if you have poor gear and need to lag behind a bit in Merciless you're not likely to find much currency, and you get the same penalty for just exploring the large maps fully and clearing each map. With instances resetting so quickly it doesn't even have to be trying for completion, it's easy to get called away by RL before finding the Western Forest wp. If you don't manage to get back before your instance closes you get to walk form the last WP and run into tons of groups all over again... and once you're over-leveled you can't really correct it... especially not HC, where leaving large groups of mobs behind you is a bad plan. |

" Welcome to my sig^^ Lies! I got GCP every time I kill a mob with my mouth in JUST the right position! So now I just have to make sure I can make it to that position before the mob is dead each time. :-P

Oh, I try to push start charactesr to get orbs.
It's the level penalty. Remember that being 2 levels above the map level warrants a drop in currency loot %. I know my level stays at around map level till around level 30. Also, as I've heard of it, the fact tha tthere's more item types that can drop in higher levels helps push currency out of the way. For default, you'll want to try to keep underleveled if you want ot keep the currency flowing. Hardcore, probably best just to run new characters and keep them under +2 map level. In both places, IIR also helps (though not IIQ). As for why you can run new characters and get nothing? RNG is RNG. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr |

" I believe RandallPOE nailed it. I think the main reason people think that they get better orbs at lower levels is because most of us are used to other games, where you do not find valuable items at low levels. Therefore when you do find them on your low level characters in PoE you automatically get excited and it "feels" like a special occurrence, when it's really just random. As for the currency drop rate penalty: That penalty is very minor. If you are 3 levels higher than the area you are in, you only miss out on 2.5% of the currency. If 4 levels: 5%. If 5 levels: 7.5%. If 6 levels: 10%. If you are 6 levels higher than the area, and you aren't killing things 10% faster than you were when you were the same level as the area, something is terribly wrong. So your increased killing speed should easily counter the penalty and therefore have very little effect if any. " Sorry but this is not true. There is no bonus for being under-leveled, only a penalty for being over-leveled. You will find exactly the same amount of currency if you are 10 levels lower than the area as you will when you are 1 level lower. Последняя редакция: Axebane#6055. Время: 5 апр. 2013 г., 21:55:55
