For default, you'll want to try to keep underleveled if you want ot keep the currency flowing.

Sorry but this is not true. There is no bonus for being under-leveled, only a penalty for being over-leveled. You will find exactly the same amount of currency if you are 10 levels lower than the area as you will when you are 1 level lower.

According to mechanics it's Map +2 levels

"
Drop rates
There is a penalty to the chance of currency items (scrolls, orbs, etc.) dropping in areas with a monster level more than two levels lower than your character level. For each additional level that you have compared to the area's monster level+2, the chance of a currency item drop is reduced by 2.5%.

Never mentioned a bonus, only referenced the penalty. YES, 2.5% is nothing technically, but given how cray people can be over drops I imagie even 2.5% is 'too much'. Perhaps to be exact, I should've said 'same level as dungeons or slightly above' though I found if I don't keep underleveled I'll end up very overleveled.

sidenote, you'er thinking equipment. Everything other than currency ignores player level.
There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.

This game really isn't for people like that.

This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr

It's map +3 levels that the penalty kicks in. Map +2 levels suffers no penalty.

And I just wanted to clear things up in-case someone took your statement "keep underleveled if you want to keep the currency flowing" as meaning that being underleveled made more currency drop, because it does not.

As I mentioned before, being 6 levels over-leveled would result in 10% less currency (according to the mechanics thread you quoted) and I would be really surprised if someone who is 6 levels higher than the area were not killing mobs 10% faster than they were when they were the same level.

Basically that currency drop penalty is only meant to "normalize" currency drops due to the increased killing speed. It's not meant as a drastic penalty for someone farming a zone under their level, and in reality it's NOT drastic. I've spent hours and hours farming zones that were 3-5 levels lower than my character level and found plenty of currency.

It's an erroneous perception, based on the fact that early on in Act 1 normal, you won't be leveled too far beyond the monsters. Starting some time in Act 2, and all the way through till about Act 2 Merciless, you're always going to be 4+ levels higher than the enemies. This is due to the fact that for one, you level really quickly early on, and secondly, monster levels in normal and cruel are too low. It's a problem they need to look into in my opinion; constantly playing with 2.5%+ loot drop penalty, simply by playing the game normally, is nonsense.

Otherway around mate, only quantity matter for currency(and gems too i think)

It doesn't directly influence the drop bias towards currency and gems, but because you have more drops, you have a bigger chance of getting orbs and gems.
