The loot system hardly gives you time to even pick up your item LOL...

You have a look at stats, by the time you look at it, your time is over. People can pick it up.

It needs to be WAY longer

Lol, um...maybe pick it up THEN look at your stats? I dunno, just a thought.

Edit: I fail at english.

You are missing my side of the argument entirely. We like this game, it is awesome. If they start watering down all the features, even with options, what will the game become? How can it remain a unique game if it becomes just like every other one?

I see your side of the argument, I just don't agree with it - which is fine! I don't want take something away from you if you enjoy it, just give a little so the rest of us are happy?

Plenty of solutions have been proposed, solutions so simple I can't fathom how it's even worth the effort that's gone into this thread.

Simply put a slider somewhere in the UI that, moved to the left removes the loot delay (proper FFA!) and moved to the right increases the delay. Problem fixed!

Cute, but no. The game adapts to the needs of its audience (whatever that may be) or it dies.

Just a note on this - isn't inventory management also supposed to be a gameplay element of this style of game? One game mechanic telling you "quick, pick up everything!" and the other saying "You have limited space, choose wisely" seems like a contradiction to me.

Delmas, you're an idiot.

1: If I solo, anything on the screen is "mine". It only STOP being "mine" when I introduce another player, so why should I EVER do that? Can you kindly answer that question? Why should I EVER group? Why? There is no benefit, only negatives.
2: Arrogance, pure arrogance. Skill in playing the game has NO relation to ability to click on items on the ground, kindly STFU.
3: Maybe, maybe not. It certainly does not help incoming revenue to allow anyone who attempts to play with others to have a bad experience.

This game was designed by people who don't like things spoon fed to them. I hear Blizzard is even giving out sporks if your interested in a spoon fed gaming experience. I guess you should NEVER bring in another player. If you could just do that and be quiet at the same time, I think we all would have a win today.

So much elitism!

How is having loot that flags itself as MINE, stay MINE...being "spoon fed"?

How is allowing a ninja to steal items "hardcore"?

Some of you people need to carefully remove your heads from your asses and inspect the bigger picture.

I'll make it clear for you: If a game actively discourages grouping, that game fails as a multiplayer game. Simple and to the point.

PoE is a single player game with a chat-room right now. A really great single player game with a chat-room, but its still a single player game with a chat room. The game is ultimately doomed to failure if it does nothing to improve the system of picking up loot when grouped with other players.

Do I want D3 instanced loot? No, I don't, fuck D3. But if an item drops during a group, and it flags ITSELF as "mine", and someone else takes it, that item has been stolen. I don't see what the big deal is in making items that flag as "mine" remain "mine".

Wait so Diablo 2 with the same loot system failed because of ninjas...makes sense, how well did that game do again?
I swear the greediest people are those that want instancerd

Everything is mine mine mine.

Pick up what you need. Leave the rest. You should already know what you're looking for. Pick it up and look at it later. You don't need everything. Quit being selfish.

Looting is fine. If you party with someone who ninjas your stuff tell them to knock it off or don't party with them anymore. I don't see how this is a problem.

Hey buddy! Funny story: I tried this today and had 2 people tell me, and i quote: Shoulda been faster on your loot, dumbass.

I was, you see, my tiny inventory that has less space than the D2 inventory didn't have room, and in the time it took to shuffle one of the white items I couldn't filter out, some asshole ran by, picked it up, and refused to give it back when I asked, nicely.

It doesn't help that I'm playing a minion/ranged character and already have to scramble into the fray to get loot while some piece of human garbage is just picking up things and not contributing.

Something like 90% of players did not group with others (myself included actually) because of FFA loot. Your argument = invalid.
i apologise for not reading all the posts before mine in this long discussion.

Now path of exile is f2p and that is an awesome thing, nothing forbids the creationg of paid leagues with different rules tho.
New league with assigned loot, 10 coins (which is nothing) as buy in, 1 year resets.
hf

p.s. i f*cking hated the ffa loot when i first joined closed beta earlier past summer (there was no timer yet), i swear to god i hated it...
BUT! Now that i actually know what to pick up i love it :P
If you start understanding the game, getting a couple of chars to level 70+ then you also start understanding loot, once you understood that then ffa loot becomes awesome because you know you want that item, you know others want it too and you need to decide whether the risk of maybe dieing to pick up loot is worth the item etc.

In any case they do need to adress the issue of getting blocked while trying to pick up loot, that for sure.

1. The loot is not yours. And by having loot given to you, like a child being given food on a spoon, it is like being spoon fed. Kinda thought that one was easy.

2. The loot is not yours. And by this logic, there is no such thing as a ninja in PoE.

3. I want proof of this statment.

4. Wahh.

I keep my stash empty, if I pick it up and it is shit, it gets thrown on the ground, hence keeping room open and me only taking stuff worth having.

If you can simply make people "quit being selfish", this argument would not exist right now. This is why I said before, you live in a cave. This is not how the world works, especially when everyone's behind a computer screen.
