"Desynch" prevents client side packet manipulation since everything is verified by the server. This means: No duped items, no bugged items, no speedhacks/teleporting, prediction, rewind, etc.
...
Desynch stops a large portion of problems. It's just the route they chose to take given they were a tiny Indie startup.
Nope. You're confusing a side effect for the cause.
In what way?

It's easier for players to adjust their play style slightly to account for desynch than it is for a player to compete against item manipulation, such as:

Besides, they wanted an economy, and you can't have Shav's Wrappings rings running around if you want that.
Of course, if you play solo, I guess desynch IS the worse of the two for you.

Who cares if bots are considered hacks or not? Running a bot is still cheating. The topic wasn't about hacking, necessarily, but about cheating.

Here Chris is basically saying the desync issues are a necessary evil to help combat cheating. Perhaps, I did not read in between the lines and took his comments to literal, but cheating is happening in POE and legit players are the only ones suffering because of it.

People cheat in Blizzard games as well, that is to say, games from a multi-million dollar company with a ton more staff than GGG. You can not eliminate all cheats/hacks but you can minimize what is possible and can also easily eliminate the worst cheats via the network model GGG chose.

Can you please timestamp that video? It's 48 minutes long...
And, man, how many times do I have to say it? Desync is a result of the steps they took to prevent cheating. SOME FORMS of cheating. Not all. Some.
People are going to cheat if they want to cheat. That can't be stopped. All GGG did was choose a method that makes it harder for them to do so in more insidious ways. Desync, or the problem we call desync, came with that choice.
Can I be any clearer?
The first 3 or so minutes they talk about desync.

You are being clear, but it wasn't the right choice for the player or the game.
It has been the largest issue with the game since I can remember, although I have learned to deal with it, so many people don't or didn't.
I mean, there has to be a different way to combat cheating that doesn't affect legitimate players. Some sort of checks and balances system instead of this totalitarian server.
If you have bugs in your house, you don't just set the house on fire...

Charan you are arguing semantics. The desynch issue is largely inseparable from what is causing it. Blaming one is blaming the other.

Here's a thing. D2 is a 15 year old game with a bunch of backdoors by today's standards. Secondly, Blizzard HAS implemented a lot of means to get rid of tons of bugged and duped items in the game. They've added a checksum on the item ID and removes duplicate/non-unique items from a game. They added a check to remove empty socket runewords, e.g. ith items. They could very easily implement quick fixes to some of these bugged items if they so chose, and many of the more egregious bugged items have been removed. Blizzard just doesn't seem to see the point in chasing shadows on a ten year old PvE game that's still balanced better for PvP than PoE has ever been.
They have an economy alright. It's whoever knows a gold farmer has a huge advantage because you can get 40% more currency for every exalt you want to sell to them.
