What makes PoE Good?

Well I've been looking for a game to play for a while and it seems PoE is rated highly just about everywhere. SO i tried it and I dont really understand why its so highly praised. The characters have no abilities or anything, its just from gems.. The look of the game is unappealing and the map of the area you are in is just very low quality. Im not trying to make hate thread or anything. I just wanna know why people think of this game so highly, when I've played it hasnt lived up to a single one of those praises. I'm sure someone will say "if you dont like it dont play it" Well okay. thats a useless post. I want to know why everyone here thinks the game is so great.

Short answer: Optionality
Long answer: You touched on it in your post. A character doesn't have abilities. Every character can do everything by using different gems and allocating skill points on the very large skill tree. This build diversity (some would argue there's not much but really there is a lot) combined with traditional ARPG elements are what makes it appealing to me. Also some aspects are more "hardcore" than in other games that are pandering to the lowest common denominator in an attempt to increase the player base. I like that even a lvl 100 character has to be careful under the right circumstances. There's more that others will mention I'm sure. |

I absolutely love the synergy between skill tree, Gear and gems, you need to balance everything carefully. When you Reach high Level with your own skill tree you feel very satysfied
