Well thats pretty absurd considering playing any game online you have a base chance of dying to a technical issue higher than 1%.

I am not defending the issues or GGG at all here, my biggest issue with the game and number 1 on my wish/priority list is optimization. Simply stating that until/if it is fixed there are work arounds with a high enough success rate to consider taking the risk.

With the performance and sync issues that PoE has, not having at least a 1-2 second period between clicking box and mobs spawning; was just outright bad design. No excuse, just bad.

Agreed, Strongboxes are in a pretty shitty place, especially if you roll a of Contested mod (rogue exile). While there are ways to avoid most of deaths with LW or SM, I still feel like Strongboxes should be heavily optimized. I have yet to die to any Strongbox in HC ladders but I have taken ~4,5-5k hit from Magnus Stonethorn while my client has been frozen (as in my client is frozen by lag, not the frozen mod) for a couple of seconds. That should NEVER happen. Nowadays I actually skip most of the boxes that have Of Contested mod, even though they are really fun to open most of the time. Sigh.

To the first point: This is untrue, given simple observation--hardcore mode could never exist under such circumstances. Having a "higher than 1%...chance of dying to a technical issue" means more than 1% of all actions result in death. That is one per centum, or one by the hundred. On average, one out of every hundred or fewer actions taken are fatal. Reconsider the basis of your argument here.

To the second point: Really? Because it sounds like you are disagreeing with a plea to have content optimized. I will grant you, PoE has had its optimization problems since forever, and we the players go through great pains to mitigate the fallout of those problems on GGG's behalf. Certain map mods can be avoided, optimizing builds around skills that are more sync-safe, use of /oos prior to engaging a dangerous pack or after a series of desync-prone movement skills, working in strategies to avoid stuns, etc.. But we're talking about the entirety of a content update here.. an entire piece of the game that some find outright unplayable.

I'm inclined to agree with TheAnuhart. I get it, Ambush league was about strongbox ambushes, and a 1-2 second grace period just doesn't fit the theme. But this is no longer ambush league--the ambush element is not the important component in the new leagues.

This is just wrong.
Every player/character/build needing a single gem in order to open a box is wrong. When there are 3 other movement skills that should be reliable.

What should we do when 3 out of the 4 fail and even the one reliable 4th can't help it in a performance lock up?

Fix the skills.
Fix the performance.
Fix the netcode/prediction/mechanics that don't work as GGG desired they would in a perfect world that can never exist.
Fix the boxes so they are better suited to the above.
Leave it all borked and require every build to always use smoke mine, while advertising, emphasising, shouting out loud how broken things are regularly and firmly.

There are 4 skills that could work if there was a very small delay on spawn, performance freezes would be less fatal, boxes would be less of a silly gamble and would be more fun.

Why would anybody want to stand in the way of johKeys' suggestion to fix boxes, why, just fucking why?

I agree with the delay of say 2 sec, even though the lag I experience is minimal and use smoke mine, which is prob. the best skill for opening boxes, but it's bad design to force people use a particular skill.

Even dying every 100 boxes due to lag is too much, imo.

In two instances I ripped to a really bad map mod & box combo - while logging out on box open - just because I was half a second (not joking) too late to click on logout button. The instagib spike damage can be insane, giving you practically no chances, especially when playing solo.
