Need to know all about the crits
Hi there
Since im kinda new I dont understand all those crits which we have in game. Like for example: - Increased Global Crit Strike Chance vs Increased Crit Strike Chance - what is that "multiplier" crits... what they give? Also if I play Bow ranger and I wanna pick up "King Of The Hill" nodes which gives me "100% Increased Crit Strike Chance with Bow" do I need more crit chance like those between Quickness and Assassination? I ask coz I undersatnd we cant have more then 100% crit chance... . I search for some topic which explain all that crits but I didnt found. Also sry for my English but I hope you understand :) |

Increased crit chance - on a weapon increases the base crit of the weapon. This will be undesirable for a skill that does not use weapon damage (fireball, spark etc)
Increased global crit applies to every skill regardless. Where there's one they're bound to divide it right in two.

If you have a bow with 5% base crit and pick up 100% increased crit chance you will have 10% total crit chance. Base crit multiplier for all crits is 150%. If you pick up 100% increased crit multiplier your crit multi will be 300%.

The wording in PoE is usually very precise so if it say 'increased critical strike chance' without any further words it means it will apply to all sources and the same goes for 'global ...'. If it says '... with daggers' for example, it means it applies to all atacks that use your dagger but it doesn't work for spells even if you have a dagger equipped since you are not hitting with the dagger itself etc.
Regarding getting over 100% critchance increase: all the boni apply to the base critical strike chance of your weapon, skill or spell. If you for example use a Harbinger Bow with a base crit chance of 8.6% then +100% crit chance from passives will add another 8.6% to your critchance so you get 17.2%. If you want to go full crit you will want to get several hundred % increase to reach a total critchance of 30%+ or better ~50% with bows for example. Regarding 'critical strike multiplier': your base critical strike multiplier (crit multi in short) is always 150%, meaning that every crit will do 50% more damage than a normal hit. If you got a total of 100% increased crit multi, your critical strikes would then do 300% of your base damage, 450% for 200% increase and so on. On a crit build you will generally want to increae both your crit chance as well as your crit multi to get the most out of it. 11.02.2013 - 11.02.2017: four year PoE anniversary!

You got detailed info about all this on wiki.
Short version would be: - if an ability deals weapon damage it uses base crit chance of the weapon, if it doesn't it has its own base crit chance (with an exception of unarmed strikes and a few spells which have 0 base crit chance). - when you have increased crit chance bonuses you gain a pecentage of your base, so if your base is 6% and you took 100% increased crit chance you will have 12%. - same goes for crit multi, initially your crits deal 150% of normal damage, if you take 100% increased crit multi your crits will deal 300% damage. - hard cap for crit chance is 95%, crit multi is uncapped. - weapons have higher crit chance than spells because attacks require you to confirm a crit by rolling chance to hit once more. - 'increased crit chance' on weapons is highly desirable because it modifies your base, 'global crit chance' works the same as just 'crit chance' on passive tree. - 'crit chance with spells' affects crit spells only, 'crit chance with X weapon' affects crit chance only if you use that weapon, 'crit chance' affects everything that can crit.
