Malachai
Yeah the fight is pretty much a nightmare for any melee build that doesn't have buckets of armor and physical mitigation. You think it's a bullet hell game trying to find some time to shoot at him without getting half your life dinged? Try doing all that except instead of standing still for a moment or two, you're plotting a course to Malachai that doesn't intersect any of the many hazards, getting a hit or two in, then having the precognition to back away before you get gibbed.
I generally just reserve this fight until I get a new level, then death rush him. I have no idea how Hardcore players deal with him, do they all just buy clears from players that stack phys mitigation and dedicate their build to selling Malachai kills? I want to echo the original post in that Malachai is unkillable for me due to massive framerate drops. A fight where you have to know exactly where you, Malachai and all the damage-dealing effects are at any moment is not possible with massive lag. Outside of maps, only Malachai, Merveil and Dominus do that to my performance (ground effects used to as well but they're a lot better now).
I never bought kills in this game, but after seeing the Malachai fight on my computer once I just turn to asking someone to kill him on Cruel for me fast when leveling a new character. scroogetemplar / scroogewitch / scroogemarauder Freezing Pulser (safe + affordable): https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1529856 Последняя редакция: scrooge999#0080. First phase in this fight seems pretty balanced BUT the second phase has still to much high DMG ground effects which will at least pop 50% of your hp when you just leveled and try him.
Often you can't do any dmg to him (when he stand still and casts his portal) because he is surrounded by his fire mines (close together) or the moving circle of death. His many and random spawned high DMG ground effects makes the fight more annoying and hectic then it should be. Make them less spammy but keep his HP and DMG and it would be all right. Malachai fight is fine. Damage is fine. Area size is fine. If you want to complain about something complain about Darresso flying swords.
Game engine is bad. But this is what you get from indie developer. "Is there such a thing as an absolute, timeless enemy? There is no such thing, and never has been. And the reason is that our enemies are human beings like us. They can only be our enemies in relative terms." Последняя редакция: kamil1210#5432. Время: 27 дек. 2015 г., 13:19:31

I'm OK with the flying swords in concept. I'm not OK with how much damage they deal and the fact that they're un-evadable. Yet another boss fight where random shit just pops in and Evasion is fucking useless against it.

A4 in general is such as mess balance wise. Fighting any of these bosses with an evasion character not twinked to the moon is painful. Sure, you can zerg them to death this shouldn't be what's required to kill them. Cruel malachai is tougher than anything in merciless up a4 of course. Nearly every A4 boss has some kind of anti evasion gimp mechanic in the form of physical spells.
A4 added very little meaningful content to the game has forced an entirely new tier of gear check for players to progress through. IGN: Arlianth Check out my LA build: 1782214 Последняя редакция: Nephalim#2731. Время: 27 дек. 2015 г., 18:30:49

My evasion/dodge ice shot ranger had little problems with content up to Daresso, but then got her ass handed to her by those sword patches in Daresso's arena. Daresso himself not too bad, he moves fast and hits hard, but can manually evade most of the time. The swords are hard to see and kill fast though. Any tanky character can get through OK with a bit of luck.
Malachai, I have managed to get multiple characters through in Normal/Cruel without deaths, but yet to do so in Merciless. Tanky characters, evasive characters, melee, ranged, summoner, all get smashed. It's so hard to dodge all the crap that's flying around and still find a way to fight back, especially melee. I know what's coming, I know what to do, but I still keep running from one source of damage to another. There aren't enough extras around to keep your flasks charged, and you don't have time to be chasing them anyway. The arena is tiny and no place to hide. On the other hand, Malachai is the Act 4 boss, he's supposed to be the hardest fight in the main game, so in that sense it's a worthwhile challenge. Something has to be the hardest fight. What really annoys me most about the act bosses is the complete lack of reward for killing them after the effort expended. I've never dropped a decent rare or unique from any of them, you don't get anything from Dialla for offing Dominus or Malachai, and the NPCs in the game don't treat you any different a saving Wraeclast multiple times. Greust still spits at you FFS. I can totally see why HC players wouldn't bother, and even I wouldn't bother with a lot of my SC chars. |

My summoner witch didn't have any excessive issues with bosses up to Malachai's second phase. I killed Daresso, Kaom and Piety at 0-1 deaths each and Maligaro, Shavronne and Doedre at 0 deaths each.
This is subjective, but Malachai seems to have a mechanic-wise advantage over Maligaro / Doedre / Shavonne. He seems to preferentially direct his ranged attacks at the summoner while ignoring melee and ranged summons, and his AoE area coverage means that you don't have time to stand and summon a stream of SRS skulls / skeletons. admittedly, Merveil, Dominus and Malachai could use a serious grafix nerf to prevent the lag spikes ;) |
