I'm going to give 3.0 a try. I would definitely want to just play the first three labs myself though. So if I did take you up on your kind generous offer it would just be for endgame lab. Who knows when that would be? (Note: I personally consider the fourth lab kind of optional and going through all the trials an especially boring chore, especially that burning floor one. So I don't know how long it would take me to get through all that?) I mean I might decide to go back to Diablo 3 and wait for more labyrinth improvements before returning permanently/indefinitely. Like I've said, Diablo 3 may not have the depth of PoE (to me that relates to replay-ability) but it is a very fun game.

You sound slightly sarcastic now. Anyway, depends on the build I guess. Some builds can easily function without fourth Lab run. Others get their second most vital passives from the fourth run.

I'm not being the least bit sarcastic, just trying to be completely honest. I do appreciate the offer. What my thoughts above might pragmatically mean is that I may be more likely I'd take you up on your offer with a standard character rather than a league character. I have occasionally done an endgame trial with the thought that the points would be nice. It's just that mapping is lots of fun so I usually blow off the trials when encountered because I don't want to spoil the fun.

edit: Just read Slicer's post.

If one doesn't have to complete the trials anymore to enter endgame lab in 3.0 then I'd definitely be interested in an endgame lab run in standard if 3.0 comes out and that aspect remains the same! :-) Although as Slicer points out below, the "carrier" would then have to open the portal.
(Which costs four offerings, which could be compensated for in my case.)

I am putting info like this in spoiler tags just to make sure people who don't want to be spoiled aren't spoiled because I know that can be annoying. Anyway, that comment needs to be edited because it is inaccurate, my bad if I wasn't clear. I will say why it is inaccurate below.

You still need to run the trials if you are the person who is opening up the lab. If you're in SSF, you still have to do the trials. If you plan on getting carried by someone else and that person is the one who opens the instance to the corresponding version of the lab, then you don't have to do the trials..

Thank you for the clarification. Although I actually did understand that part so my response was the unclear one. I do have a question though.

question?
Do you know if once someone is carried through the endgame lab without completing the trials then are they able to open a portal to the endgame lab on their own or would they have to still complete the trials first?

Np. Here is the answer.

Sadly, the answer is no.

If you haven't done the trials for the lab in question you will be unable to start the lab on your own even if you have gotten the Ascendancy points from that specific lab i.e. completing cruel lab in a party will not give you the ability to open cruel lab if you've not done the trials for cruel lab.

Completing the trials is mandatory if you are the person who will be opening the portal to the labyrinth. You can't solo the labyrinth if you haven't done the trials for the corresponding lab.

Well, looks like I'm your guy then, TD. :)
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.

I've got some good news from Beta. It is much better. I don't think that could be considered a spoiler since it's incredibly vague. For details, read the spoiler.

First, you still do have to the lab. Unfortunately that hasn't changed. Still, it is much better.

Ascendancies are much faster to get b/c the lab is shorter in normal and cruel. You don't have to get the trials anymore if someone else opens the corresponding lab for you. Trinkets actually appear to be along the main path in the lab. The map got buffed so you can actually tell which exit you're going to come into i.e. no need to enter the next room to see which room it is.

As someone who plays exclusively SSF/HC (and who, as a matter of principle, won't use carries -- free or payed -- to avoid content), this has no effect on me.

But it just shows how the lab is totally screwed up and how GGG has twisted themselves in knots to keep it as a requirement for ascendancies. To go back to a (typically missing-the-point)
quote from Chris on the lab:

"
We're worried about the slippery slope of players wanting the rewards from a system without engaging in that system (although we do understand that Ascendancy classes have been so successful that they are no longer considered rewards but instead intrinsic parts of your character).

As if the issue was "wanting the rewards from a system without engaging in that system" rather than "not wanting to engage in the system, period".

Well, welcome to the slippery slope.

It's all too true and ironic. I don't want to engage in that system because I play games for fun and that system is not fun for me.

Honestly, I don't like this change, smells of lab carries getting more popular than ever. No idea whatever possessed them, unless this is just a temporary thing during beta because they haven't implemented the flags yet.

I'd be ok with something like reducing the spawn weight of completed endgame trials, that's something that encourages you to try finding them yourself. But this? Nope, definitely not ok with it.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

It kind of looks like an overlook from GGG, since the access to the lab has changed, it might very well just be one, which means that it could be a bug.
I guess we just don't know yet if it's intended or not, we will see.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
