The timer actually starts as soon as you click the portal in Act 3 town and start loading the Plaza.

Why is counting load times BS? Load times are counted in every race they've ever had. People with fast load times will always be able to get further in a race than people who take 30 seconds to load each area.

Why it is useless in any race should be obvious. However, in a normal race, you have like 15 load screens in 30 minutes (Kill Merv race). In the lab, you have 10 load screens in 4 minutes, so it is much worse.

It's bad in races too, but the quick nature of lab runs just compounds it. Players with better PCs have an incredible advantage over those that don't have such computers. At least in races they're usually longer and players can even it out with drops/luck. Lab runs are just about who can load areas fastest and one-shot Izzy. It's honestly the worst 'competition' I've ever seen in PoE.

To be fair at least for me (and I have PoE installed on a big as regular HD drive) load times decrease incredible for any run after the first. And even then the lab isn't that bad. But considering the low amount of randomness it is very similar to fixed seed races, although in this case instead of an entirely fixed layout the gear isn't random since you start with a fully equiped char already.

And if we look around having a better PC/connection is usually always an advantage in any competitive gaming. That's just how it is. The big issue here is that once you start trying to make it fair in those regards you end up just limiting yourself. Because it is hard to find a point to stop. So not caring about it in the first place solves this very elegantly.
That's disappointing, clearly a poor choice.

run take 10 minutes for me, 2 minutes in loading screen, ya 20% is not big deal...
But this is not the end, lowest run take 4 minutes, my loading time is 50% of that!

I cant even check my personal best becasue loading will fuck me over.

Not carring about aspect of game that make it uncompetitive when you try to make competitive game is very bad decision.

It's simply ilarious, but that's up to them. I mean, i can live without lab racing, but it's really... Well, i can't even describe how dumb a race like this can be given the circumstances.

Imagine a situation like this:

4 seconds between the first guy in chart and the second. The second just had windows updates starting in that crucial moment and the load slow down. Funny huh? :D
For an Emperor to be just, an Emperor must be patient.

This also make it hard to measure your personal best if someone don't go for #1 but just want to test compare his builds.
