Yup! The CWC setup is so much stronger because you don't need to leech mana, so can preemptively fill the screen with the ice rain...

Pick a Chaos or Ice golem depending on which color you get after rolling RRR ...

being able to precast is a big plus, but this alone doesnt make cwc stronger. and well-made selfcast setups can sustain prolonged icestorm spam without leeching back mana...

cwc is easier, it is stronger with bad gear and/or low level. but it is definitely not generally stronger than selfcast. ;)

I finally got around to update the Witch version to the SR-CwC setup. Played her in Standard for a few days after finishing 40/40 in Breach on the Berserker. Damn, I almost started to forget just how awesome she is.

Major update:
- Switched to SR-CwC. A lot more mobile now. No more casting lag, you can stop casting and move at any time.
- Don't need Enlighten anymore, much cheaper and new league friendly.
- Don't need Deep Thoughts anymore. Get everything 2 levels earlier.
- Don't need Lightning golem anymore. Use Ice for more DPS or Chaos for more defense.

I'll update the Standard gear and stats tomorrow. Everything else should be up to date. Leveling guide is updated too.

I haven't made any new videos for this version in 2 leagues, it was overdue.

Videos from the leagues are usually made when I get to lv 90-ish and obtain semi-decent gear. This one shows what you can do when you take it a bit further.

One bit there is specific to the Witch: she can pre-cast Icestorm on any Atziri statue. Between the Ascendancy (-50% reflect) and a cheap ring (-30% reflect) there is basically zero reflect.

Yeah I actually prefer self cast, for what feels like better mobility.

agreed, I feel the same. with sufficient cast speed, selfcast feels smoother and quicker to me. and I absolutely dislike having to keep the right mouse button pressed in the cwc setup. but thats certainly a matter of taste.

I considered leaving the self-cast setup as an alternative option. But then I realized that with CwC you don't need Deep Thoughts anymore. That's 2 skill points! You get everything 2 levels earlier, and this should tip the DPS meter in favor of the new setup too. And you have a free gem socket of your choice (Enhance lv 4 in a 6L curse link is an amazing luxury upgrade). And the freedom to move at any time without getting stuck in the casting animation is very nice. That unavoidable animation lag was one of the chief complaints about the build, now it's gone.

IMO all these benefits are very worth adjusting your habits. When you started playing this build you got used to this style of casting and moving. It took me less than a day to get used to the new style. Pressing the key for just long enough to proc Icestorm is very easy. It's more about ignoring the beam: it doesn't matter where it is, Icestorm is cast where your cursor is. Try it! ;)

And for somebody who is new to the build it's a no-brainer: CwC 4tw.
