Orb of Fusing Chances

Has it been released how the chances work with this? Are the odds weighted in favor of certain outcomes?

I'm wondering if it's actually easier to 5L a 5S item than a 6S item. 6S item does have the advantage of one additional 5L combination, but it has way more non-5L combinations that could easily offset that.

You never want to 5L a 5S item. Even if the odds of hitting a 6L is slim, you still want that possibility. If you link a 5S item you will save a lot on average by buying the item 5-linked.
The only real advantage of 5-linking yourself instead of buying is the possibility of hitting that 6L unless it's the first couple of days of the league.

When you link a 6S item, there are 2 5L outcomes, but the "reverse 5L" is a lot more rare than the regular 5L that starts from the top left socket.

Here's how fusing works. A number of sockets between 1 and the number of sockets the item has is rolled (obviously the chances are not equal). The first X sockets (X being the outcome of the roll) are linked. Then it jumps to the first unlinked socket and the process repeats until all the sockets have been covered.

So a 6s has a greater chance to 5L, because in addition to the chance of 5Ling on the first socket, you can create a reverse 5L by getting 1 then 5 as the results. It also can create a 6L, which is a useful outcome to have even if you aren't aiming for it.

Hmm, it works different for me. Whenever I need a 6L I'm happy once I finally have it no matter how I got it. But I don't take the risk to waste another huge amount of fusings which always made me sad back in the days.

Right, if you get it around your average number of fuses I see it as getting something that was earned and paid for, if you link it that cheaply it's pretty much a gift.

I always go for 5L on a 6S item. If I ever do get that 6L it'll be a nice bonus. Most recently (yesterday) I spent 120 fusings on a 6S infernal mantle and only got a 4L (a total of 44 times). I'm sure I'll hit 5L sooner or later, I just need to acquire more fusings first.
