I always hear namelocking is 'bad' in PoE. Is it also 'bad' in other ARPGs ?
" That's one of the options. Once button's hold down and target isn't specified, it auto-picks the nearest target (or attacks air if no enemies around). If you strictly point and click at a target, you will namelock it. Once the target is dead, you got to re-click at another target to namelock it, otherwise it will automatically pick the next nearby enemy. The other option is so called "classic targeting", which is pure namelock. You have to click at a certain enemy to perform any action. You will stop any actions when initial target is dead, and you have to point and click at the next enemy, etc. You can switch between targeting options in game menu. But there's no perfect targeting system in these kind of games. I agree that in PoE the problem comes out mostly of the speed of mobs and overall game speed, rather than out of a so bad targeting system. "I actually have my doubts about that. when game was much slower, people still didn't like namelocking and preferred aoe skills in PoE. of course, that was back when desync was quite bad, but still... |

"actually, I didnt ask that - I asked if people also dislike it in other arpgs, because I really dont know if they do (as someone who has played nearly every arpg ever made and as someone who puts 'controls', 'ui's and 'qol' next to last place in game enjoyment department just above 'graphics', I never really cared enough if something feels smooth or clunky) I didnt make an assumption that people like it in GD. |

"I dont get it then- what do you mean by 'absence of other option'. aoe is another option, no ? or are you talking about a mechanism to fool-proof the player (and engine) so he doesnt miss (like he actually did) and just make it so he hits the target instead anyway (ie, auto targeting- like multistrike does after first hit). maybe I'm using 'namelocking' wrong. |

" Yeah good old manual sudden death rune aiming. Anyone could pk anyone without getting some dumb skull. Stealing someone's lootbags (which could contain hours and hours of looting) and mailing it to your own depositbox when they entered town. Luring crazy bosses to town to start havoc and loot the bodies of the fallen. Getting rooked all the way back to level 1. Out of curiousity, which world did you play? Heart of Purity
