Path of Misclicks
Hey can something be done about the amount of misclicks in the game. I swear the mouse hit box is just off or something. I don't know what the technical term is for that mouse area, but it feels very off. I feel like the pointer tip is not where the mouse actually clicks, but slightly below it, which can sometimes cause a miclick, but this is just how it feels to me so I don't really know.
I've talked to many other players, and it's almost a running gag now that everything get's misclicked. I just misclicked a diviners strongbox, again, trying to craft it. Can we have like, a crafting mode, for strongboxes that's as easy as the weapon swap key in game in order to prevent unnecessary misclicks? I mean it's so bad I'm making a forum post about it. I also want to mention that I've misclicked tons of portals, and I don't even know how it happens since my mouse isn't even touching the portal sometimes. Sometimes if I click above a portal my character will enter it? It's almost as if the path that the character travels, if it intersects with a portal, it will somehow activate it. Just the mouse feels messy in general to me. I've activated doors I never meant to open with this as well. It's incredibly frustrating though when you try to ID a strongbox and you activate a freeze, nova, detonate corpse combo. Last bumped14 февр. 2018 г., 14:21:53

I changed my rig three times, used windows 7 to 10, and i have never encountered anything like this.
Sounds like a bug to me, is this really the right section? I represent only myself, my own thought and believes. I am individual, not a representative of the community.

Wow, just this morning I was considerimg an own post on this subject.
Yes, the mouse input is really off. Even moving stuff from inventory to stash I often misclick. In combat, it is really annyoing and quite often dangerous. My guess is that it's a timing issue. I get the feeling that the click is registered a little after you pressed the mouse button and have already moved it a little. So it gets the click info on the already changed cursor position. This sounds like a small issue, but after trying out that new arpg which uses the cryo engine I see just how damaging it is. I was utterly blown away by how precise that game feels and when I came back to do my dailies today I was shocked at how unprecise combat actually is in POE. I always thought that I just misclick, but it's really a tech issue with POE and should be looked at asap. May your maps be bountiful, exile

With the inventory handling, it almost sounds like the input delay with vertical sync enabled.

In my experience, there are different cursor control issues.
One is described in OP, a kind of hitbox related. The other is what I call "cursor lock". When you've accidentally clicked on an object and are further unable to change the direction by clicking at anything else. It's just impossible to change the movement path and get disattached off the initial target, no matter what. I've lost countless amount of offerings before they changed the location of TP - you misclick and point at the TP (as it was next to the offering), char gets on running to it, you panically click at empty space to change your direction, char stubbornly targets the TP and leaves the room. According to the strongbox misclick while crafting. It's unlikely related to hitbox issues or any of a kind, but looks and feels like server glitch. It's like server didn't calculate your last action, but performs/repeats a previous one instead. Vertical synch got nothing to do with issues in OP. I thought I am getting crazy or old (or both?), but reading through this topic, I think something else might be going on indeed.
Crafting boxes is the most common case to notice this for me. It still might be me getting clumsy, but in other games, I do not notice this happening, so... I don't know. Would love to know for sure. |

One thing I have learned is that the translation from mouse location to the world is ... not what I intuitively expect, compared to other games.
If you click just in front of the head of a monster, the game projects a straight line from your "eye" - camera location - to the ground level. It then calculates the angle from your character to that point on the ground, and fires your projectile, spell, etc, at that angle. It calculates the hitbox of monsters from their, uh, "stand", or footprint. Like, if you imagine them like wargame miniatures, the base circle. So, given the camera angle, and mouse, the point "just in front" of their head is actually to the left of their actual hitbox by however much the height of the monster is. It gives you a persistent problem that your aim is a bit too far to "character left" unless you actually namelock a target to shoot at. In most other games, or at least my expectation of them, the line projects from the eye to the mouse cursor location along the same path as PoE, but it performs hit testing at each point along the way. If it intersects the 3D hitbox of a monster, that is the target, and you shoot at it. That keeps things working "as you naturally expect" rather than the way PoE seems to treat things. I have learned to work around this by aiming for the feet if I don't want to namelock something, but ... it isn't exactly natural feeling. |

Hitboxes depending on camera angles are the problem, i noticed this long ago and tested it a bit. You can see it clearly in trial portals, hitbox is WAY out of the portal and you can still click it while your mouse is nowhere near. This ALSO happens on bosses with big size, if you use leap slam wb etc in an uber atziri fight your mouse needs to be 3km away from the boss otherwise it will count as the boss hitbox, not where you mouse actually is. This is just another reason why HC is a fucking joke.
