Hall of Grandmasters - Zombie Chaos Damage on Death

With the new Flesh Binder Necromancer node that gives 50% of life as caustic cloud damage on zombie death, HoGM has become very hard to do for close combat AOE builds, even with 7k life and 60% chaos resistance I get oneshot by the caustic cloud that zombies release. At the moment it seems to do more damage than anything in the Hall, and the only solution is to spam some ranged skill or totem to get past it. I wonder if this is intended or not, it seems unbalanced as it is now.

That is intended.

HoGM isn't balanced and is not likely to be balanced because people payed a ton of money to get that content in there, with their characters.

Your best bet is to just not kill zombies when they explode on top of you or play CI. At this point, only a few dedicated builds can farm HoGM safely. The rest just have to make do with a few deaths if they can complete it at all.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Danzig, seeing as he can two shot 15k hp in less then 3 seconds with lightning arrow.
(⌐■_■)
Danzig is a walk in the park. The new damage from zombies is an unintentional side effect from the 3.3 Necro ascendancy change. A zombie build using Montreguul's and The Baron can reach at least 30k zombie life as far as I know. That means at least 15k chaos damage pr second pr. zombie (and they come in packs). Before last patch those grandmaster's was a piece of cake to kill. So to say it is intended is bs. My guess is it just slipped past the balance team / time schedule.

The whole point of the map is that players can submit whatever broken build they have in mind, so it's always going to be broken.
Right now you are noticing the necromancer, but loads of builds can be even more frustrating depending on what you play. Massive damage characters may be annoying, but they usually can get killed fairly quickly too. Now imagine a build that you litterally have no means of hurting. I'm not even talking about Chaos Inoculation, just a build with massive defenses and regeneration, even when frost bombing it.

The mere concept of the map is broken. It should be removed from the atlas and sold at Leo's as a fairly common unique so that people that may be interested in this kind of content have easy access to it but others don't even have to see it.
They could also put a leaderboard with prizes to make it more appealing.

By who?
They paid to get their characters in there, but GGG is making the game in the end. For the same reason they moderate unique ideas people have, because some of the ideas are simply stupid.

For the same reason they should tone down the worst offenders from Halls. As it stands, this map is junk because of some broken characters.

Not to mention that adding broken/annoying characters to Halls is dumb on its own - you pay big money so that you can take a big, hot shit on a map, so that everyone will think it is shit, therefore nobody will ever see your character.
Create an interesting character instead.

For your build, quite possibly, but not for every build. You can't claim PoE was ever balanced that way. Some builds have problems with some things (even though they might be perfectly efficient with some other endgame content), and, yes, it varies depending on the current patch, but there was never any attempt by GGG to actually balance all types of builds. They just make tweaks here and there to change stuff and force people to make new builds.

This. Incentivizing and improving PvP is a good thing, because some people really enjoy it, so it adds to the game.

Making people feel compelled to play it (such as by requiring its completion for Atlas completion) has quite the opposite effect: It detracts from the game.

Also known as the "shifting meta." Another huge turd dropped on the game. Switching around ridiculously overpowered skills in order to hide the absence of even an attempt at minimal levels of balance is just an insult to any player's intelligence.

If I paid 500$ to have my nastiest troll character in there and GGG nerfed it, I'd want an immediate refund. I imagine just about everyone who paid their money to put in the nastiest thing they could build and would want a refund if it was nerfed.

I just skip the HOG or run it after several adult beverages right after hitting a new level.
My question is - why would you even want to do that? If you put retarded characters in there, everyone will skip it and no one will ever see you character.

So you basically want to pay money and shit all over the place just so that nobody can see what you paid for.

I mean - sure, if you really want to do that, feel free to. But then again I think anyone who does that is a tool.

HoGm supposed to be doable to quite several builds only.
Don`t bother with it, if you not one of those two builds.

Really.
Don`t.
