De-socketing resonators
Please allow us to de-socket fully socketed resonators.
I put a bunch of fossils into resonators to make some space only to realize later that it was irreversible! I pretty much destroy a lot of currency worth of stuff including a four-socket resonator, currently worth 80c which is more than my total wealth! I had no reason to think it would be permanent as virtually nothing else is in this game. Not only can you desocket gems from gear (which is the main reason I assumed I could desocket my fossils) but you can also despec skill points, delevel your character, uncomplete maps, unshape them, remove crafted mods, etc... Please just allow to simply de-socket fossils from resonators. Or, at the very least, add a vendor recipe where you trade a filled resonator along with a regret orb (which would make sense) and you get the whole thing back disassembled. Pretty please... That was unlucky lol, I agree it's not intuitive at all.
I'm wondering if that would be a problem for GGG to implement ... SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" I don't really see how it would, especially if they do it via a vendor recipe. Even for existing socketed resonators: even if the resulting item doesn't specifically store information about what fossils were socketed to create it, fossil effects do not overlap so it can easily be inferred what they were from the resulting mods (more this, fewer that, etc..). |

Alternatively, I think it would be elegant and thematically appropriate for scours to work on full resonators. Just have them pop one of the fossils out onto the cursor when used; scour goes in, fossil comes out. The description on scours even says that it removes modifiers from an item, after all.

" They do say they remove all properties from an item so, if they were to be usable on filled resonators as they are currently implemented (as in, fossils are gone and their mods have been merged into the resonator), I think the logical result of scouring them would be that you would just erase all the mods, leaving you with a blank resonators with empty sockets, but you wouldn't get your fossils back. Tbh, at this point, I'd be fine with this. At least I'd get my prime resonator back. But unless they choose to change resonators so that you can always desocket fossils, I think a vendor recipe would make the most sense to get you everything desocketed. |

@OP
I do not think removing fossils from resonators will happen for various reasons, however, I think GGG could implement system where you can re-socket new fossils into resonators destroying original fossil in a socket in the process. |

What would those various reasons be?
If you could re-socket fossils, losing the original, then you could also reset the resonator to blank, also losing the original fossils. However, there's a vendor recipe for the Hungry Loop unset ring which already works somewhat similarly to what I suggest. This ring consumes support gems, up to four, when they reach level 20. The gem is then "gone" and the ring grants its effects to (i.e. supports) a socketed active skill gem. This is very analogous to what happens with fossils in resonators. Well, it so happens that vendoring the ring gives you all the gems back. I'm not sure, from reading the wiki, whether you also get the ring back. It looks like you don't but in this case, the really expensive part were the gems; the ring being only like 3c. In the case of resonators, you would just want to get the resonator back as well since it can also be worth quite a bit. And since vendor recipes seem to always have to come at a cost, it is why I suggest adding some currency to the mix (regret/scouring); enough so that you are still carefull when playing around with them. Resonators are currently the ONLY socketed items in the game that you cannot empty the sockets of whenever you feel like freely.
As a reminder, we can swap skill gems and passive tree jewels in the middle of boss fights. To those thinking "Well, I expect items I plunk in a socket to not come out easy," well, let me have news for you: You're not playing a Diablo game here. This game is not Diablo III, this is Path of Exile. If you want to play Diablo III, go play Diablo III. Rufalius, hybrid Aura/Arc/Mana Guardian | Hemorae, TS Raider | Wuru, Ele Hit Wand Trickster

Its indeed an unexpected 'feature' to miss the ability to unsocket. And I would very much like to know why both new item types (resonators and fossils) are declared as stackable items (in the filter announcement). I see no reason why they dont stack.
