I already debunked this video elsewhere. Player error, he failed to avoid a clearly visible windup for a big hit due to a lack of knowledge. Death = deserved.

Eh, the issue is more that there just aren't enough defensive options.
Basically if you want a tanky char you have a set amount of choices/ascendancies available, but outside of those there's not much you can do. It's why ascendancies like Berserker and Assassin aren't great right now: they're not any better at offense than some others while having negligible defense buffs. In the current meta, your defensive options are converting physical damage taken to elemental damage, stacking endurance charges, massing leech (and some regen), stacking block or dodge, stacking max res, using MoM, and/or making sure your health pool is high. Sounds like a lot of options, but in reality on a few items/mechanics can accomplish these things effectively compared to what the game presents to us. As a result, many builds make the same design decisions and travel the same well-worn paths. I wish stacking armour or evasion mattered more, and I wish ES were better outside of Occultist, Guardian, and to a certain extent Trickster. I mean, armour and evasion have some impact (yes I know they're good at 100k+ but that's not realistic for most builds) and ES is definitely far from bad (it's amazing with those three ascendancies), it's just... sometimes it feels like everything has to be done the same way with every character, and that's boring. In most dangerous endgame map the most dangerous foe can have maximaly:
Physical DPS: 1 800 Elemental DPS: 18 000 Total: 19 800 DPS With critical strike Physical DPS: 3 240 Elemental DPS: 32 400 Total: 35 640 DPS foe with defauld 2x slower attack speed and ciritical strike Physical damage per hit: 6 480 Elemental damage per hit: 64 800 Total: 71 280 Additionally they can weak your defensive via debufs and shocks. I will not calculate with them here. As you see, maximum physical hit by rare foe is 6 480 (can be more with debufs). I think Minotaur can deal 8 000. With fortify, 10% reduced damage taken, basalt flask it is 4 700. With additional 5 endurance charges it is 3 640. Elemental damage looks more scary. But if we have fortify, 10% reduction and 75% elemental resistances, 17 000 damage taken will fall to 2 975. If you have 5 000 HP and this defensive with good recovery then you will be fine. Of course if you meet 71 280 damage dealer, who will luckly bypass your block/evasion/dodge... then you need incandescent heart, enfeeble, 85% resistances, fortify, 10% reduced damage taken and over 6 000 Life/ES. (Edit: Incandescent heart is only for CI, you can use flasks with 20% reduced elemental damage taken) I understand that without special defensive this game is totaly broken, becuase until first shaper fight players in SC have normally over 100 deaths. With special defensive you must have luck to don't meet lucky foe and you must be carefull when you see problem (shocked, foes near critical altar etc.). There are lot of HC players who havent problem to do few characters lvl 100 in few weeks, so game is not completely broken. This game may die from several reasons. Defense isn't one of them.
What people fail to see, is that you need layers of defenses in PoE. If you invest too much into one defense, you may screw yourself. Trivializing content through DPS is one thing; you CAN still die if you screw up. But the moment GGG allows us to trivialize content through defenses, the game becomes dull. "Safe" is an illusion. People may think they're safe through high DPS, killing stuff before being killed. But one mistake, and it's over. A buffed defense would let you make a lot more than 1 mistake. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6... " Relevant comment regarding defenses, i would just add that going full DPS is useful in some situations, i don't bother anymore for safe fights against uber atziri as an example, i just respec few points add few more dps options with different ways and just one shoot her phase, same for trio and vaals, that's just an example. The defense in this case is attack, and i won't die the strategy work as intended. However for mapping / delving you are rarely able to 100% trivialize content, even with a lot of defensive layers you will most of time die from a random shoot, or they will eventualy let you survive with 2hp and enough time to alt f4 or run for your life but there arn't any guarantees. At this hour i'm not sure what was the record for delving in HC leagues but i think it's far behind the SC one wich has a strong defensive setup no one totaly trivialized it, and even with that setup there were a lot of deaths from different sources. There arn't much solutions, either GGG keep things like that, or either they add ways to trivialize everything for all possible builds archetypes, but if they do that it will have a price and i'm not ready to pay for that personaly. I like the way it is atm, give some adrenaline :) Hf :)

" "Solutions" require a problem. Being able to die isn't a problem. When in high tier play, you HAVE to have that possibility of death. It's required. Or else, we can just stop playing. Hitting 100 isn't a human right. It's a challenge. IF you could build to be completely safe, it wouldn't be much of a challenge. Anyhow, I think we're on the same page here.
