[3.7] Ice Spear Miner - Fun & Fast Machine Gun Simulator, Great League Starter

Yeah sure, the order of importance for your ascendancy points really depends on your playstyle and level of equipment.

You should pretty much always take Pyromaniac first, as it is your main defensive mechanic and also reduces the Mana cost of your mines so that they are easier to sustain.

Second, if you feel confident in your defenses, you should go for Bomb Specialist. If you are taking more damage than you are comfortable with, take Born in the Shadows.

The third ascendancy node again depends on your defenses but also on your gear. If you already have a helmet with the mod Place an additional Mine and you are confident in your defenses, take Demolitions Specialist (or Bomb Specialist, if you took Born in the Shadows before). If you're feeling a bit squishy, take Born in the Shadows.

For your last node, take either Demolitions Specialist or Born in the Shadows, depending on what is available to you.

As for Pantheon powers, that really comes down to personal preference, but I am using Brine King as my major power to help mitigate stuns and an upgraded Shakari as my minor power to achieve poison immunity.

Thank you, again :)

I bought Tremor Rod, 5 sockets 4 links. Should I try and 5L it? Quality is +20%.

I watched you video, minotaur run, and your mines "shoot" instantly. I have to place mines first and then use detonate skill. Am I missing something or are you just that fast at pressing skills?
You probably shouldn't try to 5-link your staff with only 5 sockets on there. If you want to link it yourself you could get it up to 6 sockets first, you might accidentally 6-link it that way :), or you could just buy The Jeweler's Touch prophecy (11-12c) and get a guaranteed 5-link without any fuss.

Once you get the Volatile Mines node on the tree, your mine detonation will be instant as well. It takes a bit of practice to get the rhythm down between placing, detonating and moving, but you'll get the hang of it in no time.

Hey guys, I made a pretty substantial update to the guide (thanks a bunch to HollowDean for asking some good questions) that should expand on a few of the points I glossed over initially. I still have more information to add, especially related to the leveling process, when I have a bit more time. There is a new sub-section about the order in which you should take your ascendancy points under the leveling section, I rearranged my utility skill setup once again to re-introduce frost bomb, added a clip of the Eradicator fight (I'm planning to re-record most of these clips as I improve my gear), and updated the snapshot of my gear.

I was also able to finally get my boots enchanted, ironically after about 30+ uber lab runs I managed to get it while carrying a guild mate through merc lab and didn't have the will to continue trying in uber.

The other enchant that I would have accepted was Regenerate 2% of Life and Mana per second if you were Hit Recently, as it provides a nice bit of added defense. Regardless, the re-introduction of frost bomb and my enchant amounts to another 28% elemental penetration against bosses (assuming I have not killed recently), the effects are pretty apparent in the Eradicator clip that I recorded.

This is definitely gonna take me a while to get use to this type of gameplay.
How are you able to place mines so fast and at same time detonating them?
One important thing that you might be missing is having always attack without moving selected for your ice spear skill on your skill bar, if you always have to run to where your cursor is on the screen to place you mines, make sure you have this option selected.

It looks like I am detonating my mines instantly but in reality that is not the case. There are 3 variables you have to worry about when playing with mines, technically 4 if you're playing with Tremor Rod.

First there is Mine Laying Speed. This is the equivalent of cast speed for a traditional caster with the caveat that there is a hard cut off beyond which scaling it is either meaningless or detrimental. Picking up the easily accessible mine laying speed passives on the tree in combination with Tremor Rod, which has a sizable bonus to mine laying speed, can bring your mine laying time down to about 0.25 seconds.

Secondly there is Arming Time. The default arming time is 0.5 seconds, with Demolitions Specialist this becomes 0.25 seconds and can be scaled even further with the Curtain Call unique helmet (although this item has other downsides). This is also the fourth variable which you have to consider with Tremor Rod, as mines have to re-arm after they've been detonated.

The third thing you should be concerned with is the built in mine detonation cooldown which is 0.2 seconds. I haven't played around with this too much but it may be possible to reduce this number using gear with the cooldown reduction modifier or by using a totem to supplement your own manual detonations.

What it all boils down to is that when you press the button to lay your mines down there is about a half second (the placing time and the arming time) before you can detonate them and then another quarter of a second to detonate them a second time when you're using Tremor Rod.

The reason I think that Tremor Rod is really interesting is that it allows you to play a miner that feels more like a very powerful traditional caster build. You have the ability to deal sustained damage by constantly placing and detonating your mines as fast as possible while also maintaining the option to front load your damage by placing all of your mines and detonating them at a strategic time. When playing a miner without Tremor Rod, you will only ever be detonating 2-3 (or 3-5 with Minefield in) mines at a time during sustained casting. Over the same period of time you will detonate 2-3 times as many mines if you are using Tremor Rod.

Quick question, I was spamming frigid fossil to try to get a helm similar to yours but this is the closest one I got:
. I still have some currency left but it was such a hassle buying fossil from people. Should I just keep it, or is the delve "- cold res" a must have mod? Thank you very much!
The place an additional mine mod is pretty rare, I would honestly stick with that until you have enough currency to give it another attempt. The worst thing you could do is roll over it and not have a helmet to use in the meantime. Before I crafted my helmet I bought something like 450 frigid fossils over the course of a few days and also bought a new base to craft on just in case I wasn't able to get the mods I wanted.

One thing you could upgrade in the meantime is your boot enchantment, try to get 10% penetration on them if you don't already have them enchanted. That would provide nearly the same benefit as the -9% cold res mod but should be a cheaper option and you might even get enough currency to continue crafting your helmet by farming lab for a bit.

Edit: For what its worth, I used about 50 fossils before I got the place an additional mine mod and was lucky enough to also hit the -9% cold res mod at the same time, but I'm pretty sure I got extremely lucky.

Also, if you don't mind paying a premium, you can buy fossils in bulk from a lot of sellers. Also check the prices in alternative currency, I bought the majority of mine 10-15 at a time for 1 Alchemy each.

Yeah, I am at about 70ish fossils, first time seeing the addition mine shaper mod, sadly no - res. I just sold a ring for a few exalt so I might give it another try soon. Thanks for the reply!
Slowly getting the hang of it! :)

I'm lvl 56 now. What stats should I prioritize and when should I start upgrading my gear? Not very lucky with gear drops!
