Now that there's so many players the archaic chat system really needs an overhaul. Either allow people to join multiple trade & global channels or add some more dedicated channels so we have global / trade / challenges / rotations / pvp (lol) and police them effectively.

Honestly the game already have a party searching screen, they could very well moderate the chat and enforce the use of that for such breachstone crap. But we all know that GGG will never do that sadly.

It's a shame 820's dead. But I'm surprised it lived for this long, given the fact that an informal community-assigned channel is going to be so prone to having all kinds of spam find its way there. It's a testament to how many people were actually willing to try to follow the convention.
More channels for more specific things might help, like if someone was able to successfully spread the word on a breachstone channel and get people to start using it. But I'm not sure how to organize such a venture. Maybe GGG could throw the community a bone and publicize a list of channels if enough players agreed on one (GGG wouldn't be responsible for actually determining this list, and certainly not enforcing it, just getting the word out). We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

" what on earth makes you think it's dead? This guy showed 1 person spamming 4 times, how is that any different at all than spamming 4 Vorici ROTAs before betrayal? |

*Ignore. If the list is full, just clear it via /clear_ignore_list
*Report spammers and they will get warned or muted *Don't keep the chat open, unless you need something or copy/paste ur sentence and then close it etc. |

While its not widely known, you are not supposed to be trading in any global channel, only the trade channels.
If you see someone doing it and it annoys you, report it. It doesnt take too many reports for a moderator to take action. Its a neverending thankingless task, but its the only hope youll have of keeping a global channel relatively free of tradespam. HAIL SATAN!

The reporting system needs to be automated.
First - an algorythm tracks the chat system for number of times an entity submits chats within X time period. Second - reports are parsed by an automated system. If enough reports come in on an entity that has high chat through volume that entity gets a sixty second ban. If the high volume and reporting continues, the bans get longer. Once it reaches one hour the entity's client port is blocked (IP/MAC ban) for that hour. OFC, if this activity continues the account itself is banned and all accounts that regularly trade with it are flagged for investigation (botting) and possible banning. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. |
