I had the same issue (currently I am level 42 with the build). I will give 2 pieces of advice:

1) Do not try to get the whole build together as you level. You will waste a ton of orbs trying to get the sockets right on temporary items. And since many of the active gems in the build benefit from the same old set of chaos support gems (Void Manip, Efficacy etc) you can cheat during the build. I used a Tabula and 6-linked ED + Contagion with the 4 best chaos support gems.

2) I used Bane linked with 2 chaos support gems and Despair. As soon as I managed to put that gem cluster together, everything started melting and I basically leveled with just spamming Bane. This is MUCH quicker than Contagion and ED.

I am just returning to POE, after having left following the Delve league, and i wanted to try this build out, after having run some other builds i've tried before.

I find myself dying a lot despite using MOM and the evasion talents from the tree, i do however only sit at 3,7k life and 700 ES.
What is the best for me to upgrade. I was low on currency, but found an EX today, so now i have some money to burn again. I know my belt is garbage, but still getting life here, would leave me with 100 more life, changing not that much in regards to my deaths.

Your quiver is really bad as well.

A big thing will just be getting more levels. Every level gives you + base life and more points to use towards +maximum life nodes.
You should remove the two increased chaos damage nodes by Corruption, you could use those to get +11% maximum life.
Move your spreading rot to the unused jewel slot on the right (above Blood Drinker) and put an Intuitive Leap in your current spreading rot slot. Then in two more levels you can have another 10% ES 6% life, and get endurance charges that will make a huge difference in your survivability.
Get a Cast While Damage Taken + Immortal Call link going.

Wouldn't it be safer to link Blight with totem support?

Does anyone know which is the best single gem you can use to support a chaos spell to max its damage? Void Vanip? Efficacy? Controlled Destruction? Swifter Affliction? Hard to tell them apart tbh.

I have one socket left to support Bane, which is already linked with 2 curses.

Just glancing at my gems it looks like
Efficacy >= Controlled Destruction >= Swift Affliction > Void Manipulation

The first three should all deal the same damage, just a matter of how long Bane lasts. But you should just try them all out in Path of Building with your character

Agreed. Your quiver, amulet, and belt could all be upgraded very cheaply to have more life and ES to give you a boost in survivability.

Levels indeed will make the most difference. You went for all of the damage nodes first, which is fine, but you might just have to play slightly lower content until you get a few more levels. Your gems are also still level 18, so as those level up you will kill stuff faster and feel safer too.

I see you're waiting a bit to try and multimod your bow. If you're feeling lucky, you can regal + annul it and try to get it as a rare bow. If you succeed, you can just craft non-ailment chaos damage over time onto it for a big DPS boost now. Later when you have the currency you can go ahead and multimod it. It's a risk though, since there's a 50% chance you lose the +1 gems mod and have to roll it again.

How much of a difference does "+1 level to socketed gems" have over just having empower + max level gems? my current bow is 6 linked and has the ED setup but I don't have the +1 to socketed. What I do have is +40% non-ailment chaos over time on that bow, will that be sufficient or is +1 socketed a must?
