While GGG adds cool new endgame uniques, there's still a category of leveling uniques lacking...
If you are planning to level new toons it's best to prepare a simple stash with some basic gear to take along the way..
I have leveled a multitude of characters this league (like 8 or 9) and been happy with this selection: " All of this stuff doesn't require much, allows fixing resistances easily and can be exchanged along the way for some rares you might pick up. Some people go into extremes and fossil-craft specific rares (extra abyss sockets, movement speed, onslaught etc.). If you have a good grasp of the game, that's a big upgrade to the leveling process. I never found that necessary, but I can see the merit in that. To be honest.. the leveling uniques we have are fine. To the people who say it sucks to level a wander.. don't fret, next league brings a new wander skill that scales both with weapon and spell damage. Wanders are like melee characters in that it's best to upgrade the character with rare gear along the way instead of depending on uniques. Certain builds may differ, but that's life, lol. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

" I'm referring to league-starting as a wander, not shunting a whole bunch of leveling gear back to subsequent characters. And as regards the unique options that the new skill give us for scaling damage, it's not like wanders can't get a enough % dmg scaling already. There's wand nodes, as well as other damage nodes like ele dmg, in that part of the tree, as well as on gear. It's not the scaling that wanders lack for while leveling, it's the base damage itself. The only fixes for that are the aforementioned propping up of the crappy wands we have with high flat dmg leveling gear (like Zerphi's Heart), and/or running a bunch of flat damage support gems (which take away space from juicy damage multiplier or behavior modification support gems), which neither melee nor archer builds have to do. And crafting rare gear while leveling, that you'll abandon soon thereafter, is seldom worth it given how precious currency is at the start and how annoying RNG can be (unless you're playing SSF of course). I'd love more 'levelling' uniques. These are the funnest aspect of the game IMO. I cannot be alone in avoiding the grind of this game by planning builds around cheap uniques that don't need six links. The so called 'trash uniques' of other people are often build defining for us cheapskates.
