If you hide an idea just because its bad or unpopular that isn't any better than the upvote/downvote system, some bad views are worth having as a representation of bad views, sometimes an unpopular view changes your mind or looks better in a later light.

I think I'm good with deciding on my own what to ignore in public spaces. If you dont think we should have personal ownership of this, I'm confused on your take on PM's.
Because in a debate, you're part of a larger conversation. Quotes being quoted, re-posted and answered are being hid from you, because you chose to ignore Poor Paul, who wrote the initial post? Then you come in, and only have 50% (or less) of the conversation, and start debating from there? Seems like a very bad debate in my eyes.

Meh, I'm ok without knowing the rationale behind being a racist or fascist. I dont need to hear their side of the story tbh. If that makes me narrow-minded, I will live with it.

You just said it deserves deletion. I said that was probably too much, and hiding, where you can still view if you wanted, is fine.

I would be surprised if they could do this reasonably within NZ, anti-bullying laws and all.
Also, this "I don't agree with you, therefore you don't exist" thing seems somewhat generational; this forum is so full of late-30s vintage milennials that it might not go over well.

Johnny said something similar at one point. Johnny is now one of those racists and fascists, because he "lacks" the option to view anything that challenges his narrow mindset. Everything he reads, supports his narrow mindset.
As I said, in a debate you're part of something public. Everything is connected. Just because you deem something unworthy of your time, it does affect others too - indirectly. A debate/discussion with ten participants, where all of them have three/four of the others on ignore, seems like a very... Unhealthy, stacked-up fraction of a discussion.
Before you know it, the whole God damn forum have you on ignore, just because the upvote/downvote mob deemed you not worthy of their time. Think about all the fun discussions you would have with yourself. How you're unable to see how this would become a shitshow in 2020, where everyone feels "violated" when someone disagrees with them, is beyond me.

It same goes at what time in the day which is why many similar algorithms like this are abused. Finally, even if something can be useful and helpful can still receive down votes if some individuals have a personal dislike (vendetta) against someone.
Pretty bizarre that I shouldn't be able to block spam calls on my cell phone, because the telemarketer might have some interesting sales information. I'm good.
We already have a dnd, and ignore features in-game, I hardly think it's a leap to the forum.
I dont see the problem with at the very least, offering individuals the opportunity to filter at their discretion (which they can do manually anyway)

Yes because if your hiding it because its bad you shouldn't and if your hiding it because its offensive it should be deleted :p was kinda my point
