Can i ask the question about endgame PoB with wrath, without cluster jewels? according to this, i have Net mana regen -527 with RF on, and when RF is on, i am always NOT on full life, which means Agnostic works. How does this build work then, if I am constantly at -527 Net mana regen? Even if i change chest piece to cloak of defiance, i am still at +200 Net mana regen which is not enough

In general, I find in most games people undervalue armor. But I always find that armor, as in straight up physical reduction, is very good in most games. Armour on its own is very bad at mitigating physical damage because its effectiveness diminishes the larger the size of the physical hit. The tooltip numbers do not take that into account.

For armour to be effective, you need to stack a lot of it and use it in tandem with Molten Shell. We definitely have nowhere near enough to make that approach worthwhile.

Flat physical damage reduction from sources like endurance charges are good for mitigation but armour much less so.


Well, I made the change from the dodge skills to a cluster jewel like I said, and now have 3k armor because I have "stubborn student" notable passive in my cluster, which gives 1 armour per 10 mana and then 20% armor on top AND 15% mana. Also, I got 2-3k more mana, and my dps went from 30 mil to 40 mil in PoB. As I predicted, I get hit more but the hits are more manageable and got way more life regen because I got more mana. I get hit more so have to use my life flask more, but I got less "oh shit im gonna die!" hits like I predicted.

I tested it in a tier 16 map with 24% more monster damage. Corrupted blood did almost no damage because of the life regen by 10k mana pool, and although I got hit more often, it was less % of my total HP. Im happy with the change so far, although it cost me 6ex in cluster jewels.

Sounds good. I always say one should play the game how it feels best to you while trying to learn other ideas at the same time.

If you want to learn more about armor and how it fails as the hits get harder, use POB and go into the Config window.

POB defaults to all hits being small and as such armor looks fabulous. But once you change the Enemy Hit Damage to a large number, you will watch your phy mitigation drop through the floor.

Your changes are likely helping you because of your mana increases, not due to any help the armor is providing you, at least in high tier red maps.

can someone maybe give me a helping hand?

This is one of the first times I really try to play ranger but I cant seem to get it right. Apart from the equipment in the POB (I used the clarity without clusters) not even available with these stats in Ultimatum (even a Watchers with two stats costs 20+ ex), I've tried my best to have the best stats available. Anyway, I tried to fill out the rest of the missing points (only lvl 74 right now) in POB and I'm not even close to regen mana and thats without Rightous Fire.

As I said: I'm pretty new to Rangers and mana builds, I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. Even if I increase mana on my items so I have 10k mana, I'm still nowhere close to a positive influx.

Playing this game on/off since release and still have no clue sometimes :(

PoB is misleading in this instance. What happens is, RF burns you for some damage, so Agnostic turns on and drains some mana. However, Agnostic way outperforms the damage from RF, so it heals you with leftover mana regen to spare for each server "tick".

TL;DR: Don't worry about it, it works.

Try setting POB to a 17k hit for Shaper's slam, or 22k if he crits. You'll see the diminishing returns on armour.

wow!! From your write up, I expected a mess. Things look very very good, especially at just level 74.

You already have the end game gloves with both blind and faster casting.
You already have the 6 link cloak
You already have foible
You already have the conductivity ring

This is an excellent start!!

Now you just need to focus on two items, mana and mana regen. Stop pathing where you are heading in the tree and go back and take the point above Cruel Prep and the point above Arcane Will.

Personally I tried Clarity and did not like it. I dumped it for Clear Mind jewel instead and have been flying ever since.

Your next big ticket item is going to Unnatural Instinct. That will help your build in numerous ways.

Just keep going and each time you upgrade a piece of gear, focus on getting more mana and more mana regen. You can never really have enough of either, as long as your resists are in check, which they are.

Some general things to do:

1) You are not using the recommended mana flask. Moving to an enduring may help you

2) Get quality on your flasks and on your foible.

3) Run the lab over and over again until you hit 70% Increased Mana Regen for your boot enchant (or buy one instead, that is what I did since I hate the lab :) ) This is a massive help to your mana regen.

Couple things:
- Sigil of power - make sure you link that to increased area of effect, it makes a big difference in your room to avoid attacks.
- Flasks. Read the section on flasks, it's important. Yours are way off the mark.
- Watcher's Eye: for the Clarity tree, I'll quote Chemist: "For the Clarity version, prioritize % of damage taken while affected by clarity recouped as mana > % of damage taken from mana before life while affected by Clarity > % increased mana recovery rate while affected by Clarity (run an Anomalous Clarity at level l with max quality)"

Your mana regen should be ok, POB says you're pulling in nearly 1200/s with your flasks up, and bladeblast is only costing 2000, so you're easily in the cast every second range with Mind Drinker working. Against bosses, you'll need to slow that down some, unless they have minions to top up your mana.
