ATTENTION!

Please get this to whoever needs to read it at GGG.

I want to start off by saying that the game in its current state, with all things considered, is absolutely fantastic. I can't express enough how much joy it has brought me over the past month, and I just want to take a moment to thank you all.

I have noticed a glaring (potential) issue, and I feel like your response as a team will either make or break the trajectory of the game entirely.

It is inevitable that (especially in early access) a minority of players has had, or will have, a negative experience, and those players have a tendency to "appear" the loudest in terms of feedback; However, it is important to keep in mind that it's just an illusion, albeit a dangerous one. For clarity on what I'm referring to, Let's compare two different theoretical players.

The first is a player such as myself that has multiple thousands of hours played in PoE1, and has been glued to PoE2 for the past month, barely taking the time to sleep or eat- much less share any feedback, positive or negative.

The second is a player new to the genre entirely that decided to buy a key and try the game out. They end up having a bad experience, due to a lack of knowledge, assistance, difficulty, or just having different expectations entirely. Most of the time, due to frustration, a predisposition to negativity, personal discrepancies, or whatever the case may be- they are going to share their negative experience publicly, loudly, and anywhere they can, including in any feedback submitted to your team.

Just to really drive the point home, this person will likely never touch the game again, regardless of changes made for or against what they might be advocating for (their feedback being submitted from a place of relatively no experience, mind you).

Basically the players that are extremely dedicated to the game, the ones that are unfalteringly loyal to PoE and GGG, are too busy enjoying the game to post about their experience, or to confirm things in the game that do work as intended. On the other hand, the people that the game probably wasn't made for to begin with, or at least to say, that aren't there yet in terms of being receptive to what the game has to offer, are the loudest in terms of criticism, which creates a skewed appearance in terms of feedback. It is well known that people in general have very little to say when they think something is good, and plenty to say when they think something is bad.

All this is to say that in the coming years, I hope you will continue to keep your most loyal fanbase in mind first and foremost when considering changes, to trust your instinct as the developers we've come to know and love, and to put it crudely- not dumb down the game that those of us love for what it is just to please a crowd of players that either A. won't care one way or another come tomorrow or B. Will change their mind as they come to better understand the game.

Additional important note: Many of us veteran players feel that Grinding Gear Games is the only remaining gaming company in the world that refuses to compromise the integrity of its product just to satisfy the- quite frankly, ignorant (or at least coming from a place of ignorance relative to the game)- masses.

We all deserve a space to game in that is tailored toward our individual tendencies and likes, and a large portion of us that some might consider "elitist" sincerely do see GGG as the last frontier in terms of a challenging, complex, and uncompromising gaming experience. So to any new player that happens to be reading this, please let us have our game too!

Happy New Year, here's to a good 2025!
