" I agree 100%, so +1 to this! In any case, here's some information (with timestamps) on AH/IBO discussions by Jonathan himself if you wish to include them in your original post. Should clarify just a little bit of some of the intentions in regards to a better trading experience in comparison to what we have today: → Zizaran's Interview: https://youtu.be/RskRFwgoQ5g?si=b2zWNtIN1mvLfHLi&t=6506 → Destin's Interview: https://youtu.be/ouwX0caU_es?si=wVRRCoA36mShFRa1&t=2460 🐈⬛ Последняя редакция: Vinszen#2819. Would adding a 3 day cooldown on items bought on the AH that makes them unsaleable for that duration eliminate flipping?
The storage costs, extra management and extra risk from value fluctuations could potentially have it solve the issue |

Even though it works, it's just bad. I know that GGG wants "friction", but I don't think that's a good decission.
The question is: Why do players play PoE2? Players play PoE because they want the ARPG experience, they want to try out builds, they want to see screens full of enemies explode and ofc (especially for PoE2) you need to develop more skill and want to overcome all the challenges PoE2 has to offer. And all of that is 99% single-player experience. That's it. No one is playing PoE2 because they want to spent time on an out-of-the-game website and then hope that the user with the item is not afk. Even if he is not AFK, it happens more then enough that the other doesn't want to trade anymore or has no time, doesn't message back or - in worst case - tries to scam you if you're not careful. And even IF all this isn't the case, you have to form a party and teleport to the other user and trade with him. All of this can take alot of time. I had situations where I had to spent over 30 minutes to get an item I need. Just to get one good pair of boots with mediocre triple res + life + movementspeed I spent over 30 minutes. And this is not an uncommon item I'm lookingfor. But so many people were afk or didn't have time to trade, that I nearly gave up. At the end I went for double res and compensated with a passive node, but that was an extremely unrewarding experience. I come home from work and then 30 minutes wasted on a single item. Also I don't like being forced to interact with other players if I don't want to. But since my time is limited, I can't farm for certain items and need to buy it from others. So +1 for auction house. Auction House would most likely be a bad idea. The discrepancy between the time investment to farm something compared to browsing the auction house would increase a lot.
Also having forced if very limited interactions through trade is most likely better then removing that interaction completely. Any new mechanic that removes the need for interactions between players should be handled with care. (there are examples how the social aspect of online multiplayer games worsened as "QoL" features that removed the need for such interactions where implemented, ie automatic LFG in wow, auction house in D3 release) A desired item will always be hard to get, making it to an auction house would just raise the demand (many more people will be looking to trade for those items) making the prices skyrocket for any desirable items since most of the people providing any appreciable amount of those same items are already involved in trading. IN GGGs recent Q&A with Darth and Gazzy, Jonathan and team scoffed off the idea of an auction house or fixing trade.
Not gonna happen. |
