PoE 2 has lost over 80% of its players in 3 months.
" Yeah... yikes... Oh wait - it's totally normal for PoE1 and thus for PoE2. Like... how hard is it for ppl to understand that most ppl quit after a month and then come back with each new league!? ![]() [Removed by Support]

" Yeah, the drop isn’t a shock. The real test is how many return. |

Bumping
And after going through the discussion, I feel like the truth is in the middle. Yes, PoE 2 still does better than a lot of games, but this isn't an average game. And yes, people returning after a new patch is a normal thing, but GGG's goal was specifically to gain new players, and I don't see that happening. I think when you consider the lead up, the stated goals, and look at the complaints, there is a very valid argument that this isn't what GGG had hoped for, assuming their original statement was accurate. Even if the numbers reflect PoE 1, that is good, but, again, they said they wanted the game to grow, so just getting similar numbers isn't the stated plan. The big difference is that a lot of people want to love this game, and GGG is doing everything they can it would seem to push them out for the sake of stubbornness or creative integrity I guess, and it makes no sense. Every defense for why things like MF, the death penalties, the insanely extreme levels of grind needed past level 90, and the honor system should stay are valid, but no one is arguing to remove those completely from the game. Thousands of games have difficulty levels that allow players to be adults and control the experience they want, and there is no good reason to not implement it in this game as far as I can tell. You have a difficulty game mode, so put the honor system, and the death penalties in that mode, and let players control their experience in regular mode If GGG continues to keep these features and exclude people from their game, I think will fall short of their goals. |

" They have always done the same thing with PoE1. They come up with an idea, a majority of players hate the idea, and eventually GGG caves and changes their idea or at least makes it slightly leas bad. I think this is what Jonathan appears to hate PoE1 and not care what happens with it, it’s not their vision anymore, it’s what the players formed the game in to. |

And I'm one of them.
SSF PoE 2 felt the same as POE 1, after reaching maps. Can't be assed to play PoE 1 but renamed with a 2 now. Same shit, different day. Nothing truly groundbreaking. The storyline was nice so far, but also disengaging - why am I chasing a hot lady with pushed up boobs and an evil charisma? What's this about a beast? Yawn. I can not agree with the mention that if people bicker enough, GGG changes things. They never did this. They always knocked on "The Vision", justifying everything that was done as being righteous and correct. If they actually listened to the bickering, they would have completely undone all the skill nerfs they ever did, and completely removed the monster HP and res buffs, and returned to game to its original 2013 balancing where you could be op. Dragging your rear end across the floor in pain is not a fun and good and engaging game design. |

" I beg to differ only because in my experience the number of people I see with zero POE etiquette is astounding. I know there were POE 1 players that didn't follow etiquette but they were few and far between. The number of people that will whisper me for a trade then immediately invite me to a group, invite me to a group out of the blue because they want help (without asking first), opening trade windows without waiting for the host (me) to do it, etc. |

Im completely new to the genre.
This is just to get a new player perspective out there about the player drops and even this notion that it's totally normal for people to leave and come back after an update. I keep hearing people say this and maybe this is true for the old arpg players and previous poe1 players. As someone who is experiencing this for the first time I can tell you that I have never done this and for general gamers I really dont think this is normal. When most people are done with a game they are done, that's it. We dont all think like you so thinking that there is not rush to make the experience better and saying that they will make it better with the next few big patches means nothing to the majority of the new players. The only people who come back will be people used to this behaviour. Most people who have any kind of negative experience will forget the game exists and move on. Its not normal for most people to come back. |

" But... it already has? Like, Path of Exile 2 has clearly already brought in a lot of new players who never played PoE1. Even in these very forums there are a bunch of people who love PoE2 who either never played PoE1 or didn't really like PoE1, and I personally have friends who are in that same boat. Unless you somehow have a reason to expect that literally 100% of those players will stop playing and never return, then they've already achieved the goal of gaining new players. And if the unfinished EA version of the game is capable of bringing in new players, there's no reason to assume that the full, finished release and it's subsequent leagues can't do the same. I just see no reason to think PoE2 won't bring in new players other than "I don't like PoE2 as much as PoE1, so I'm gonna assume it won't do as well". |
