Standard League vs Dawn of the Hunt

What does playing the new league give you that the Standard one does not except a new economy?

Support gem drops in Dawn of the Hunt seem to be very few and far between. I'm questioning why I even created a new character in the new league.

Sorry for the n00b question but I'm new to POE.
I can create a Huntress in Standard. So what does the new league offer Standard does not? Did GGG spell this out anywhere?
