This is actually incorrect. SSF is the intended baseline way to play the game. The game is not designed around forced trade, it is designed to allow trade meaning they don't want arbitrary trading restrictions while keeping the game completable as a solo player. The game design and loot tables are not made in a way where new players are expected to trade a single item.

Anyway, SSF is mostly fine. I don't really have that much of an issue, but I think the campaign is a little too perfectly balanced to the point where you have to strategically ration your orbs to a large extent and I think it creates a bit of an issue where a lot of players will end up too weak or unwilling to use their currency.

I myself often feel like its better to muddle through with sub-par gear and save my currency for maps because they are a little too scarce and it feels like a waste to use things on campaign items.

But if you view it through the lens of just finishing the campaign and your currency 100% going towards you completing it, I think it's pretty much perfect atm. However, again, I think that's not the right approach to it.

trade is irrelevant when talking about self found, it doesnt matter what people are doing or getting in trade. being able to trade for items found by 100,000 people will always destroy any sense of balance for heavy traders. its meaningless to try and seek parity or compare the items you found yourself to a fundamentally broken game state where people are mirroring perfect rares and selling great gear for pennies. does self found function? thats the question.

and it is self found, not solo self found in some little niche game mode. ppl dont want to permanently lock themselves away from playing with their friends and sharing drops if they dont want to trade on the market. ppl dont want to become a full time trade whore who makes dozens and dozens of trades per week staying online 25+ hours to play shopkeeper just because they want to swap a divine for exalts on the exchange and buy a cheap build enabling unique.

a lot of ppl, probably most people who want to play with or trade an item with another player do not want to use mass trade in the economy in a way that will significantly effect their player power. making ssf mode the only way to be able to play the game without being a full time shopkeeper would be so horrible, i think it would destroy the game for vets like me and for a lot of new players coming in because the trade environment would be nerfed. thats what i think people dont get is that trade drops would be reduced probably more than ssf would be buffed because scarcity is intended, having some blue items on through the campaign is probably intended.





i think the game is maybe a little too scare on the loot right now, however im conscious of the fact that every league they add to the game post launch will introduce mechanics that will give us more items and more crafting materials. thats gonna get too much a lot quicker if you start with loot already being generous and its a one way street, once you give it you cant take it back. even when its too much and thats destroying the game you cant reverse and drop less loot, ppl will riot.

i honestly think it doesnt rly matter that much as long as you can complete the game. im happy wearing blue items if that is the intention and i can still beat the campaign. if they buffed drops a bit id be fine with that too.

The very early drops could improve a bit. Specially currency to try to improve your base items. Form actg 3 onwards it starts to work better.
From what I’ve played so far in league 0.2.0 in SSF, I finished the campaign dirt poor, still rocking gear I picked up back in Act II. Honestly, I have no idea what GGG’s intention is with not giving players any decent progression. It really feels like Jonathan’s vision is to force everyone into the trade market at all costs, because accordingly to them “it’s a healthy economy”, yeah, my ass.
I'm playing SSF and have no issue. Campaign progression and drops were decent. Honestly well balanced. Now since I'm in the endgame, it got way easier, plenty of drops, decent amount of currency - 0 issue, after all I'm playing SSF, so it should be like that and that's why I'm playing SSF for the thrill of finding loot.

Not sure why people complaining about SSF. Seems like you don't care about loot and want participation trophies - it's not how it works, there's a reason trade league exists and allows you to get whatever you want.

Its clearly way easier to get gear in trade, and most guides start with what the price is to run the setup, that in my opinion says a lot. GGG can make SSF a balaced option to trade if they want. LE does this in a balanced easy way, you can go from trade to SSF as u like but u cant use your gear in the other one and u cant trade SSF gear. SSF also has higer droprate

My SSF experience in 0.2 was as follows:

- Campaign was brutal with an unbelievable degree of lacking upgrades (completed in 20 hrs)
- Map progression has been steady with character level gains for my Amazon
- Progression has only been possible because I "crafted" my own spear early in T1 maps.
- I would be complaining a lot more if the above event did not occur
- I was lucky and SSF generally sucks ass
- I play 1-2 hrs a day of PoE2 in 0.2 vs 6-8 hrs a day in 0.1 (because gameplay isn't as enjoyable without good loot)

My zon is currently in T13 maps, but I can do T15s if I want... the thing is, I haven't found any greater jewelers orbs so I'm stuck with 3 link skills. GG, that's SSF. Shit progression because of shit loot.

Im using VAAL orb, to get 4 sockets around level 30-35+.
Gems still leveling after corruption.

PoE 2's SSF is just about the worst ARPG loot progression out there.

I could sink hundreds of hours into PoE 1's [SSF] endgame each league, slowly building up my character. In PoE 2, I'm simply asking why?

* Why am I continuing to waste days of Expedition currency trying the Recombinator, despite it's ridiculously low chance, if when I finally succeed in my combine the item will be bricked regardless with the next Exalt slam?

* Why are there basically NO CRAFTING TOOLS beyond slamming of affixes blindly? Ritual and Omens? LOL... It would take a month for an SSF player to accrue a decent amount of Omens to even begin crafting simply an above average item.

* Devs clearly want to make the loot you pick up off the ground mean something. Well, you can't simply take away 95% of crafting options and then call it a day. Loot drops in PoE 1 were always 99.9999% crap. Loot drops in PoE 2 are still 99.9999% crap. If there is no viable path for character progression other than a trade screen, then your endgame sucks. Period.

I can't see myself coming back to this game in its current state. I've been in T15 maps for only a couple days now, but I'm already finding myself increasingly bored and frustrated.
