Damage Gained As Extra Scaling Question

The Description for damage gained as extra explains that the damage only scales with the new type but what qualifies as a type? Does the damage remember if it came from an attack or spell? Does it remember if it was melee? Area damage? Empowered?

If I use infernal cry with 20 power does the 140% gained as extra fire get scaled with generic damage sources such as attack damage from Feral Force or Bestial Rage? How about the empowered attack damage from Bolstering Yell?

Physical, Lightning, Cold, Fire, Chaos.

It's not being separated from the source of the damage, whatever that may be.
However, if you convert/gain Physical damage as extra Fire damage, for example, modifiers affecting only Physical damage won't affect the Fire damage.
