where are the New Unique Maps and why are they tied to points

So im lvl 91 and ive probably done 150+ maps now. ive come across a total of 5 "unique" maps, one was the boss gauntlet, the other 4 were all varidian wildwood, which once i get to the bottom of the map, it auto completes the map usually leaving about 3 or 4 rares and havent got the skillbook from it yet. im pretty annoyed because the new maps should be a big focus for this patches endgame and ive only gotten to do 2 out of 5 over 150 maps, and have only gotten 2 of the skill points, this point in 1.0 i would have done had all of my atlas points, on top of im yet to get to enjoy any of the new maps because for me they barely spawn or are just repeats. also ive only so far got 5 nexuses done so ive got a total of 12 atlas points and im level 91 blasting t 15 and 16. something very wrong here.
