Serious Performance Issues with the New Ever-Growing Atlas

While the new ever-growing, interactive Atlas system in Path of Exile 2 looks impressive visually, it is creating massive performance problems once players start unlocking large portions of it.
After completing hundreds of maps and revealing large sections, simply opening the Atlas causes long loading times, lag, and stuttering — every single time.

This becomes worse the deeper you progress, punishing the very players who engage the most with your endgame.
For a game that’s aiming for smoother gameplay and polish in PoE2, this is a huge step backwards. Core UI elements like the Atlas should load instantly and never interrupt flow.

It feels like the system was designed with only early/mid-game visibility in mind ("ooh, cool fog and interactions!") — but not tested at scale when large areas are fully unlocked, which is exactly what will happen for dedicated players.

My suggestions would be,

Add a "Minimal Atlas Mode": A basic, high-performance version of the Atlas without dynamic fog, unnecessary animations, or heavy visual effects.

Improve Atlas Caching: Fully explored areas should be cached locally and loaded instantly without re-rendering dynamic elements every time.

Separate Visual Effects Toggle: Let players choose if they want fancy visual fog and dynamic map effects, independently of the functional Atlas navigation.

Prioritize Practicality over Visuals: The Atlas is a tool first and foremost. It must remain fast, responsive, and functional even after hundreds of hours of mapping.

Please address this seriously. Players who love mapping — the backbone of the endgame — should not be punished with loading times and lag just for using the core system.
Thank you for your hard work, but performance, especially in the UI, should always come before cosmetic effects.

GGG team has top tier PCs , they don't care about performance issues you or me have.

They made game the way they like it so they can enjoy it, and they used us to finance it.
It's sad that they don't really care.
