300+ hours into this patch, worst ARPG experience I have had in 20+ years of playing ARPGs

First off, I will cut to the chase. This patch is probably the worst ARPG experience I have had in over 20+ years playing ARPGs. After buying all of the support packs I almost have to force myself to try and have some amount of fun playing. However, every time I start to enjoy it just for a second, some stupid gameplay mechanic makes me realize why this game just straight up sucks.

Lets start with the balancing issues. The tuning is all over the place. I'm running a meta build that cost me 100+ Divs. I am so sick and tired of randomly being 1 shot by either something I cant see, or something that is off screen completely. Its especially fun when the thing that kills you is a regular attack from a non rare/boss. Add on top of this the exp loss, which at lv95+, makes it hurt that much more. I dont feel bad if I mess up a mechanic and get hit and die. Thats how it should be.

The gameplay itself feels sluggish and slow. For some of the classes that you actually need to build combo points on to play properly, they feel almost unplayable. When all of your characters abilities and skills are slow while 5+ mobs rush you with 10 times the speed you have, it just feels dog shit to play.
And they wonder why everyone plays 2 button builds for clearing?

Although loot is somewhat better now, my god was it absolutely horrible before the recent updates. How are you supposed to progress and make your character stronger when absolutely no loot drops? I dont know what the Devs were smoking on this one but my god. ARPGs are all about getting loot drops as far as im concerned. When there is no loot and the game is already super overtuned, how do you expect the players to have fun? Let alone the average player than cant log 6+ hours a day hoping for an upgrade.

The on death abilities or abilites that stick around after that monster has been killed NEEDS to go. If i kill an enemy, it should be dead and its abilities should die with it. I cant count how many times after i have defeated a rare/boss, that something it cast kills me 5 seconds later while im picking up loot. 90% of the time i cant even see the attack as there is so much shit on the screen already. Yes, i know you should still be aware after you kill something, but this has happened 5-10 seconds after i kill it. This is just my personal opinion on the matter and i find it one of the most annoying aspects of the game.

Lastly, game optimization. Holy shit are there some crazy lag spikes. I have a fairly good game PC and only this game causes it to drop to 10-20 fps or even straight up freeze for a second or 2 when im clearing maps. Nothing like dying at level 97 when the game freezes randomly. Even with an omen thats hours down the drain.

So ya, overall. This game kinda sucks. I feel if the Devs stick to their "Vision", and not the players feedback on the game, POE2 is gonna be a dead game. After buying all the support packs I'm really kicking myself this time. Get rid of Jonathon and start making this game good.

Feel your pain on every point.

Also feel like I "have" to start the game (not installed right now) because of the $ spent on several supporter packs.

I had pure love for this game in .1 and in .2 it feels like a chore.

But the main points from your post hitting home with me is the mechanics and speed of mobs.

Challenge is good and GGG needs to keep that in the franchise. But the problem feels in how the challenge is tuned. Random proj off screen and white mobs shouldnt even erase a glass cannon. Glass cannon should still be a viable playstyle. I am not a glass cannon but feel still punished on one shots. To the point of why bother, no currency drops enough to make my character better.

Next the speed of mobs. It is like the mobs are hyper tuned .1 chars while we are gimped. The way a rare mob comes at you many times...seems like they have 400% speed. It feels even worse when one of these has that slow time aura, once on ya may as well just sit there and die.

Nobody in any streams uses Trail of Caltrops...However I do in my build and it is the only reason I survive many of these hyperspeed rare mob encounters.

But that said the random one shots are my biggest gripe and combined with XP loss event makes me rage uninstall. When I die it is generally a series of bad luck.

With no clear indication how I really died and how much dmg I took. How the heck do I learn from it??? Did I take 200 mor than my Defenses? Did I take 10000?

This is the issue why many rage it is not clear enough at the core how you died and by how much?

Was it evasion? Was it Armor? ES got wiped? Resistance failed me?

Combat log FTW.

I play off-meta huntress using up to 9 active skills. My character has ~2250 hp, no energy shield and high armor + evasion. My equipment is worth around 4 div in total. E.g. my weapon does 205-388 damage, but has ~400 accuracy (amazon). I don't have more than 4 support gems on skills and they are still level 18.

First: I don't experience many oneshots. If I play a fully juiced T15/T16 map that has a strong offensive modifier for monsters it occasionally happens. I would say in 85% of cases I can trace it back to a mistake - not dodging something I could have reacted to. There seem to be some exceptions were an enemy feels much more damaging than they should be, but those are rare.

The gameplay feels too quick for me: I play a bleed build and its fun to let monsters bleed for a while and then explode them. However in practice they die too quickly for me to continue with other skills after a single rake. The maps that feel best to me, are those with modifiers like +80% monster health and armored, because on those I can actually perform my combos.
There is also no issue to constantly jump around with rake while staying close to monsters for a longer time. Surviving feels safe except for those abilities that are designed that I need to dodge them.

If you are having equipment being worth 100 div already, you are basically already having really good gear. You basically have played through the loot progression, so there will be very little improvements that drop. Maybe this changes in the final game.
Feel better now that you got all that out? Alright, now, you might consider playing another game while the game is in development, just saying!

+1 OP

The old-school psychological tactics just need to be removed completely from all ARPG's; after death hits, exp loss on death, maximum final level grind (if the final points dont matter as people say why make it such a chor and grind).

Making exp still slide higher after level 95 is just stupid and not logical, even for gameplay extension.

Or is it a sadistic inside joke to see which normal exiles are crazy enough to get there (HC i completely understand, they are hardcore players for a reason).

GGG have started to improve a lot, but some kind of actual roadmap for POE 1 and POE 2 would help ease the tension and unknowns.

P.S

I am a Dog and i will just drop my load and leave on to the next post
Good to know you've never played RMAH-era Diablo 3 or Diablo Immortal.

Also this is the greatest ARPG experience I've had since Nephalem Rift-era Diablo 3. But unfortunately I've never had the chance to play original PoE or LE.

Just saying. Just saying that people don't like "The Vision" and that games that are on bad paths end up at bad destinations. Just saying.
Set your account to public so we can see your meta, 100-div character that's getting one-shot by white mobs lol.
