[Mid to High-End PC] Performance Tweaks: System Configuration & Examples for Graphic Settings

Thank you for taking the time to make this post.

I have one question, my PC really seems to struggle when I'm running a map with delirium fog. CPU gets extremely hot, fans start revving up to the max. Without delirium fog, the game runs great.

Do you have any suggestions as far as minimizing the negative impacts of the fog on performance?

Have you overclocked your CPU? Often times the "auto OC"-features give way too much voltage to the CPU... "auto oc" + boxed cooler often tends to run quite hot/loud.

Maybe setting max CPU to 99% instead of 100 could help here, but if you are running an "auto oc" i would compare it to default or a less aggressive oc-profile and just use that until you are bored enough to fine-tune

No I haven't overclocked at all. My CPU has a closed loop water cooler, it doesn't have any issues outside of POE and delirium fog. I followed your instructions completely and my CPU is already set at 99%. I was just wondering if there were any ways to tone down the fog via adjusting certain settings, but if there was I'm sure that it would have been well known by now.

here is my Utzaal...

and here is my Utzaal again.

this is with fullscreen optimization disabled btw... 25 fps more even while playing a video on a second screen.
( i doubt that 4 arsonists make a difference of 25fps )

arsonists are probably the worst fps hogs in the game
d:-D*

Deli fog is terrible in both POE1 and POE2. That's a problem on GGG's end that will be hard for the user to fix.

I just wanted to show the difference between having fullscreen optimization turned on vs off, as it is suggested in https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/demystifying-full-screen-optimizations/ and im on windows.

Having full screen optimization disabled was giving me by far the best results - until now i did not update the original post as i fear that the whole thing turns into even more of a mess.

In case GGG happens to read this:
Is there a launch option that disables the automatic cleaning of the shader cache? I suspect that load times would improve by a lot if it wouldnt wipe every single launch. Also areas like Utzaal take a solid 30+ seconds for the drive/shader performance graph to "calm down" after a restart.
Its a good feature to prevent possible errors - just seems overshooting a little, maybe only use it after a patch has been applied?

Loading:

After loading (cropped screenshot, reduces FPS by ~10):

LatestClient.txt had these entries, clearly suggesting that the cached files have been wiped at start (spoiler):

Yeah i get that... idk if i were a ggg dev i would try using an optional avx instruction in Graphis Settings for effects like deli fog, but im not :D
(Way-too-short-explanation: An AVX-instruction would cause the CPU multiplicator to drop by a set value [usually 1-2, can be adjusted in bios]. This could help with heating problems and possible thermal throtteling.)

Still re-thinking how to properly structure the original post to make it less intimidating and easier to follow without potentially making things worse.
I think it is more readable now, at least i hope it is :D

Question for GGG:
Can we please have a Launch-Option to skip automagic wiping of the shader cache?
