Cast on Ailment is trash

I'm running Fubgun's "Limitless Thunderstorm Sorceress" because I've never messed with stormweaver. For the life of me I cannot generate enough energy for cast on ailment to proc Firestorm. I've got nearly 70% crit chance, as much magnitude and exposure as I can muster, and I'm at a loss. Any sort of help on this would be appreciated. I feel like I should drop Cast on Ailment for CoC.

Maybe jungroan guide can help.

Lots of variables at play here. Just seeing a skill tree isn't enough info. 70% crit does sound high for going for an ailment build.

Cast on Aliment and cast on crit both are different. Aliment scales better with how much buildup you have for freezing, shocking and ignite. Depending on the amount and skills used sometimes you can get it to proc in 1 or 2 hits depending on your scaling.

If you can switch you rings or jewels for meta skills energy increase help as well.
Question on the topic:

Do the ailments caused by elemental ground count for CoEA? seems like burning ground (burning inscription) and shocked ground (charged mark) would be great for applying a bunch of ailment without having to worry too much about magnitude
Penetration is a separate modifier for chance to apply ailment.

its really not though. When you get coursing currents etc going, you should be proccing multipul times on blue, rare and unique mobs.

I'm not sure what you personally are doing wrong but it works wonders for 99% of the player base.

I'm assuming there is a combo of things going on that are limiting your success:
-Not enough damage
-Not enough shock magnitude
-Not enough magnitude of non damaging ailments
-cast speed not fast enough to increase number of shocks
-not enough shock duration
-not using the right support gems
-not enough lightning pen
-are you using Rakiatas?
-not using the right skill combos (ie: frost bomb set up, spell slinger setup)
-and last of all, you're copying a Fubgun build. His builds are childs play and are meant for clearing the campaign and that's about it. His build knowledge isn't that deep.

I cast firestorm with cast on ailment constantly at only 55% crit chance, for example.

You are not doing Cast on Crit, so why stacking crit? Make sure you are getting "Apply Ailment" nodes that correspond to the ailments you are using.

Why? because crit is yet another reliable way of applying ailments in poe

This post is the most accurate I've seen, for the most part.

CoEA will gain more energy from your "generator" hitting harder (due to passing the enemies threshold to apply the ailment)

If you are able to pierce the enemy resistances (or invert them) then it will also help to apply the ailment.

The magnitude of the ailment can also come into play.

My guess is that your generator isn't dealing enough dmg; resulting in the ailment either not applying, or applying to weak mobs, due to a lower threshold, but not to larger mobs.

Balance wise, I would say CoC is better to use. The only time I've seen CoEA gain energy faster then CoC is with Adonia's Ego. It applies all 3 elemental ailments at the same time, so unless you can do that, maybe give CCoC a try?

Hope that helps :)

Nah, in this patch Thunderstorm with shock conduction 2 guarantees shock. So damage doesn't really matter and all you need is a skill that hits a lot such as Shock, Freezing Shards or AOE Doedre's. I honestly don't know what OP is on about, CoEA is the strongest it's ever been and far outperforms CoC in maps until the extreme high end. You can even pair with Elemental Invocation to double up the triggers. I can only assume OP isn't using Thunderstorm enough or not putting shock conduction 2 on their triggering skill.
